Om os
The Department of Digitalization was formed by merging the Department of Informatics and the Centre for Applied ICT in 2011. Previously, we focused more on developing IT and improving the efficiency of organisational processes by means of IT. Six years later, we changed our name to the Department of Digitalization (DIGI), being one of the largest of the kind in Europe. We teach and conduct research within the field of Digital Transformation of the Business Community and the Economy. Our new name accentuates CBS' commitment to find technological and business solutions to ensure that digitalization will benefit the society. At DIGI, we organize our research so that it can create opportunities for collaboration and keep up with the typically fast innovation in the IT field.

Curious about some of our researchers' latest work? 💡 Then read the article below from the latest issue of Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems: "From Algorithmic Management to Data-Driven Labour Organising: A Trade Union Approach to Workplace Datafication." The article is authored by several researchers from the Department of Digitalization, Copenhagen Business School: Stig Nyman, Olivia Benfeldt, Dr. Maren Gierlich-Joas, Andreas Blicher Petersen, Somnath Mazumdar, Jacob Nørbjerg, Mads Bødker, José Parra Moyano, Tina Blegind Jensen and Torkil Clemmensen.
The latest issue of Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems features a work that I am particular proud of. During my PhD studies I started wondering 💭💡WHAT IF workers, labour unions and shopstewards had access to dashboards containing metrics of working conditions (similar to performance and HR metrics used in many organisations today)? 💾 👩💻💪 👨🏭 👩⚕️ 👷♂️ The observation led to many interesting conversations in the hallways of Department of Digitalization, Copenhagen Business School and around. I am still feel grateful that when I proposed to write up our reflections, 11 bright minds joined me. Read the result your self and do not hesitate to reach out for comments and questions. Thanks a million to Olivia Benfeldt, Dr. Maren Gierlich-Joas, Christoffer Bagger, Sine Zambach, Andreas Blicher Petersen, Somnath Mazumdar, JacJacob Nørbjerg, Mads Bødker, José Parra Moyano, Tina Blegind Jensen and Torkil Clemmensen for taken part in this endeavor to build a research agenda on #datadrivenlabourorganising and how to re-imagine research on #algorithmicmanagement and #workplacedatafication. Also big shout out to Elena Parmiggiani, Henri Pirkkalainen, Olgerta Tona and Louise Harder Fischer and Monica Birth for supporting our work. https://lnkd.in/d5rcdRGt

On Monday 24 June 2024 Professor Anoush Margaryan, Department of Digitalization, Copenhagen Business School was in Brussels to deliver a keynote presentation on Human Capabilities in the Age of AI and Learning Machines at a seminar on Learning for an AI workplace https://lnkd.in/dCU5w3Rz The seminar was organized jointly by the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop) https://lnkd.in/dJW_M-4E and the Belgian Presidency of the Council of EU https://lnkd.in/erVykMGx The focus of the seminar was on addressing the skill challenges arising from the development and embedding of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies within European workplaces. The seminar presentations and discussions explored the extent to which European workers are using AI technologies as part of the work; the sectors and occupations experiencing changing skill needs arising from the adoption of AI technologies in the workplace; the training and skill development opportunities and investments available to the workers; and the role of social dialogue in facilitating human-centered rather than AI-centered workplaces. The seminar was aimed at social partners and policymakers and other beneficiaries of research. It aimed to communicate research findings and recommendations to inform policy and practice in skill development and training around AI technologies in European workplaces. Participants included representatives of national ministries of labour and education, various directorates of the European Commission, trade unions, informal training providers, and other social partners. Professor Margaryan’s talk focused on uniquely human learning capabilities that were essential in the workplaces increasingly AI-mediated by AI and the so-called machine learning algorithms. Her talk highlighted the discrepancies between human learning and the operations of AI algorithms misnomered as ‘learning’ promoting a critical reassessment of prevailing narratives and claims surrounding AI technologies.

The debate delved into technological understanding, digital literacy, and playing with technology 💻 ✨ Moreover, Sine Zambach and Coding Pirates taught the young generation. They introduced a 7th grade class from Paradisbakkeskolen in Nexø to generative AI and discussed the boundaries of what is acceptable to create with AI. Sine Zambach, who is also active in Coding Pirates in her spare time, is passionate about learning through creation and the use of AI, which is also the theme of her book "AI i gymnasiet" - aiigymnasiet.praxis.dk 📚 Finally, Sine Zambach participated in a session with DOBS – Digitale Oplysninger til Borgerne om Samfundet about Society on generative AI, learning, and data diplomacy. We hope everyone had a good and exciting Folkemøde! ☀

The Importance of Cybersecurity🌐🔐 When unexpected inquiries arise within one’s area of expertise – Jan Lemnitzer, Department of Digitalization, Copenhagen Business School explains the factors that could influence this year’s threat level of cybersecurity at Eurovision, as well as the types of cyberattacks that could occur at a large event like Eurovision.
In one of the more unexpected developments of my life, #DR is now approaching me every year to inqure about this year's cyber threat level for the Eurovision final... This year it's actually much higher than last year since the war in Ukraine rages on and Sweden's entry into #NATO has only increased the motivation for Russian hackers to disrupt proceedings. Moreover, the Gaza conflict and the dispute over whether Israel should be allowed to participate has made #Eurovision an attractive target for pro-Palestinian activist hackers and Iranian state hackers who could be tempted to stage a repeat of last December's operation when they replaced BBC streaming in some areas with an AI-generated fake news bulletin about Gaza including extremely graphic images of victims of the violence there. https://lnkd.in/di3prc6q
Hjemmesiden kan gå ned og tv-signalet blive forstyrret: Truslen for cyberangreb ved Eurovision er større end tidligere år
