CEL™ Corporate Entrepreneurial Leadership FACULTY SHOWCASE #2   We are so proud to work with such a competent and dynamic team we can’t help but humble brag a little. 🥰 Introducing another of our valued faculty members, Jes Broeng, a serial high-tech entrepreneur, photonics scientist and professor at DTU Entrepreneurship. He has a Ph.D. and M.Sc. from DTU - Technical University of Denmark and has co-authored more than 250 scientific publications and holds 22 patents. Jes is co-founder of six companies: Crystal Fibre (now NKT Photonics), Norlase, Bifrost Communications, Aqubiq, OSAA Innovation and OptoCeutics. 😎 His research interests include business and leadership areas of: - entrepreneurship - innovation and technology transfer - scientific areas of optics, photonics and communications. He has extensive experience in applied research, early high-tech business development, IPR and licensing, and high-tech sales (in US, Europe, and Asia). 🤓 Jes is a member of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences and a Fellow of SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics and has served on the committee of several international conferences. He has headed the national initiative Open Entrepreneurship DK, a collaboration between seven Danish universities for improved tech transfer models. 🤩 Dr. Broeng was awarded the European Optics Prize in 1999 and DTU’s Innovation Award in 2016. His new book, titled “Innovation Management” was published by Edward Elgar in 2020 and his recent research interests and publications include: - Designing entrepreneurship experiment using agentic AI 🤖 - developing entrepreneurial competence of lying with careful ethical awareness; 🙃 - boundary spanning roles in corporate-startup relationships 🤝 Jason is an integral part of of the CEL program, guiding and facilitating the innovation process that our corporate teams go through over a 7 month process. Fernanda Lopes from AGC Biologics is taking part in DTU’s new executive programme for European specialists and managers. The programme explores the latest in 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀, 𝗔𝗜, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 to drive innovation and competitiveness. We caught up with Fernanda to hear her thoughts on the experience. 🎤 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲? I am a manager in the field of process development for biopharmaceuticals, where I lead a team of 11 professionals, primarily composed of scientists and technicians 🎤 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂? I love learning and sharing knowledge. As a leader, the more I learn, the more I can positively impact my team. Additionally, working in the constantly evolving biopharmaceutical industry, staying informed about the latest research is crucial, as it directly applies to and enhances my work. 🎤 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲? I used to attend scientific conferences, but this course offered a unique balance between research, entrepreneurship, and industry – an experience I hadn’t encountered before. It provided valuable insights into the latest technologies and encouraged me to think more strategically about motivating my team to explore innovative solutions. 🎤 𝗪𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 – 𝗶𝗳 𝘀𝗼, 𝘄𝗵𝘆? Yes, definitely. The course provided fresh perspectives, and the access we had to DTU Skylab, Alfa Laval Innovation House, and the BioInnovation Institute was invaluable. It was finally time, time for our first executive life science course at DTU Learn for Life! On Monday, DTU Vice President, Carsten Orth Gaarn-Larsen, formally kicked of our executive course “Life Science for Human and Planetary Health” - the very first module of the EuroTeQ Joint Executive Programme, the European Leadership Programme for Industrial Scientists starting in 2026.   In the last couple of days, our auditorium has been full of expert participants from different career paths, disciplines, organizations, and even generations. The participants have been engaged and curious throughout the days. On day 1, Dr. Andreas Worberg, CCO DTU BioSustain enlightened us with insightful presentations on biosolution and bioeconomy.  Prof. Bjarke Bak Christensen, Head of DTU Engineering and Prof. Jan Henrik Ardenkjaer-Larsen, Head of DTU Health Tech gave us an overview of life science research and potential, and Prof Liisa Välikangas, at DTU Management and Stephane Guerraz, external lecturer at DTU took us through breakthrough innovation processes. We were also fortunate to get a visit by Lia Leffland, CEO of ATV, and by Sofie Carsten Nielsen, the Director of DI BioSolutions and the European Biosolutions Coalition, who gave us their perspectives on European and Danish competitiveness and policy making. On day 2, Prof. Anja Boisen, Prof. Krist Gernaey, Prof. Rasmus John Nordmann-Frandsen and Prof. Charlotte Jacobsen shared successful yet different approaches to breakthrough innovation across medtech and biosolutions. At noon, we visited DTU Skylab where Team leader Marie Louise Pollmann-Larsen introduced us to the DTU Innovation Space SkyLab. In the afternoon, Prof. Andreas Laustsen-Kiel led a case study to help us understand how incentives for innovation can be aligned across researchers, university and private sector companies. On day 3 of our journey into breakthrough innovations, we visited the BioInnovation institute and got an introduction to their programs and the privilege of meeting their CTO Markus Herrgård. We then travelled to Alfa Laval, where Henrik Jarl Røssel, head of Alfa Laval Innovation House, gave us a tour of the facility during which we talked to multiple entrepreneurs with novel products or methods. Lastly, VP Next-Generation Food at Alfa Laval Johan Agrell led a presentation and a lively conversation around Alfa Laval’s innovation strategy. Today is day 4 and the last day of our journey. Today, we are back in the auditorium for an exciting presentation, “Towards Absolute Sustainability” by Prof. Tim McAloone. Afterwards, we will wrap up our 4-day course with an important session with Liisa Välikangas, Prof at DTU Management on Leadership for Specialists.
