Anders Overgaard Bjarklev Engirank - European Ranking of Engineering Programs #Sustainability
High quality in research, education and innovation has earned DTU the status as the best technical university in the EU. "It is a great pleasure that DTU is at the very top. First place in EngiRank is the result of a shared focus on delivering world-class research, education and innovation. The result is due to the impressive work of students, staff and partners," says President Anders Overgaard Bjarklev. Engirank - European Ranking of Engineering Programs assesses 226 technical universities in 27 EU countries, Switzerland and Norway. The ranking is based on a broad selection of recognized EU data sources. EngiRank's primary criteria are research, innovation, teaching quality and universities' work with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, it operates with seven subject rankings. This is the second time EngiRank has ranked technical universities in the EU and the second time DTU has been recognized as the best university. This week, we’re excited to welcome Joe Parkinson to our team at DTU Sustain. Joseph’s Industrial PhD project, in collaboration with Sund & Bælt, tackles the biodiversity crisis in marine environments with innovative solutions not yet applied in a Danish context. This is particularly important as the unique low-salinity environments of Denmark’s inner waters provide a distinctive habitat for marine life. Marine infrastructure plays a key role in supporting societal and economic needs, but it also impacts marine ecosystems during construction and operation. Over time, bridges, piers, and other structures often become home to species typically found in natural habitats, such as native boulder reefs. But how comparable are the biodiversity and ecosystem services between these artificial and natural habitats? And can we enhance this function in the future? Joseph’s research will explore these critical questions and contribute to designing infrastructure that better supports marine ecosystems for the future. Welcome, Joseph - we look forward to following your exciting work! 🌍 #MarineBiodiversity #PhDResearch #Sustainability #Infrastructure #Biodiversity The PhD Association DTU DTU - Technical University of Denmark Sund & Bælt Holding A/S
