🌟 Methanogone: Innovating to Reduce Methane Emissions in Agriculture 🌱🐮 Methanogone is on a mission to help farmers make a significant climate impact by reducing methane emissions from cattle. By deploying small polypeptides that target methane-producing microbes in cows, they are developing a feed additive that could offer a scalable way to tackle one of agriculture’s largest greenhouse gas challenges. “Did you know that approximately 6% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from methane produced by cattle? Our goal is to bring that number down, enabling farmers to adopt more climate-friendly practices and contribute to a sustainable food system. Thanks to the Earthbound Grant, we’re now able to focus on the commercial development of our project, moving from concept to prototype and laying the groundwork for broader impact.” 📊🧪 Reflecting on this journey, we’ve come to see just how essential it is to bridge scientific innovation with practical solutions that farmers can readily adopt. The potential impact of Methanogone’s breakthrough is profound. It’s only the beginning, but we’re thrilled to see the exciting change Methanogone can bring to farms, food systems, and our shared planet. 🌍 ➡️ Affiliation: DTU Bioengineering 🧑🧑 Full team: Andreas Laustsen-Kiel, Tom Pieter Anton Jansen Methanogone is one of the six cases that recently received the Earthbound Grant (550,000 DKK). 👋 Meet CO2fix! – Earthbound Grantees 👋 Throughout history, scientists have driven technological advancement, helping society tackle major challenges. Today, CO2fix is part of this legacy, developing carbon capture technology to combat climate change. 🌍 “We are creating a low-energy solution for carbon capture, to be installed in factory chimneys to immobilise CO2 through mineralisation. Our method, based on nature’s own method for capturing CO2 as CaCO3, uses geocatalysts to speed up CO2 capture without harming the environment. Our starting material is inorganic waste from buildings, which would normally just go to landfill. But with our technology we turn it into a concrete additive, generating income while reducing CO2.” 🏭 The technology is built on the groundbreaking research of DTU Professor Susan Stipp and her team, combining chemistry, advanced surface physics, and geology – an impressive interdisciplinary foundation for innovation. 🔬 With The Earthbound Grant, CO2fix aims to test the technology in the lab and prepare for a factory-scale pilot. The goal is to build a CO2 trap that converts the CO2 from factory flue gas into a solid material that can replace cement in concrete. ♻️ We are very excited to follow the CO2fix team and their journey – in the lab, on the fundraising quest, and all the other steps towards spinning out as a company. 🙌 ➡️ Affiliation: DTU Physics 🧑🧑🧒🧒 Full team: Dorthe Lybye, Susan Stipp, Stina Bjerg Nielsen, Mads Balslev Jørgensen, Nestor Merino Diez, Markus Erlacher, Maria Murmann Løhndorf, Petros Kanelis, Nicolas Bovet, Alexandra Beltrami, Erik Goodwin, Leonid Lakshtanov, Alexander Buhl CO2fix is one of the six cases that recently received the Earthbound Grant (550,000 DKK).
