Behind the Scenes: SIM Intro Week at GATE 👀 At GATE Aviation Training, we believe proper preparation is key to success. That's why we thoroughly train all our trainees on simulator operations before they begin formal training. During SIM Intro, trainees dive into essential components like aviation phraseology, label handling and system settings. You'll notice these photos showcase our specialized SIM Pilot stations used by our SIM Pilots during training sessions and for these introductory weeks. These stations are distinct from our professional operational controller positions. What makes our approach unique? 🤷 Students experience both the controller's perspective and the pilot's viewpoint, gaining comprehensive understanding of the entire aviation ecosystem. Following our successful delivery of ACS rating, ADI rating, and APP training for 25 Ab-initio BHANSA students earlier this year, we're now providing specialized APS rating training for 6 experienced air traffic controllers from Mostar, Banja Luka, and Tuzla units. Led by our seasoned course manager and STDI Nick Perkins, who has mentored several generations of BHANSA ATCOs, this comprehensive program will run through June 6, 2025. We're incredibly proud to announce that LVNL Group 2434-2 has successfully completed their APS rating course at GATE Aviation Training! These 11 talented trainees began their journey with us in November 2024 after completing their BASIC training also at our Copenhagen Facility. What's next for these future air traffic controllers? They're heading to LVNL for their placement week, where they'll be assigned to their next training location based on their preferences, abilities, and LVNL's operational needs. Once their placements are determined, they'll return to GATE in late April 2025 to continue their specialized training with either an additional radar module (ACS) or tower module (ADC). Sending off two of the four LVNL ACS trainees on their next adventure! Their journey began a year ago, and they’ve now successfully completed their ACS rating course here at the main facility in Copenhagen Airport. These two students will return to LVNL to attend a unit course before continuing with OJT at ACC Amsterdam. The remaining two trainees will stay with us for another two weeks. During this time, they’ll join students from ADI and APP in combined exercises designed to enhance their understanding of collaboration across different units. Research reminds us that learning is not a one-size-fits-all journey. Yet, many training programs operate on rigid timelines, expecting everyone to achieve the same milestones simultaneously. BHANSA, in collaboration with GATE, has shown that true success lies in flexibility and a commitment to individuals. Recently, BHANSA partnered with GATE to complete an ACS Ab-initio training program for a team destined to work in a complex and demanding environment. This required students to reach a high level of proficiency by the end of the course. Out of 14 students, 9 successfully completed the program within the standard timeframe. However, 4 students showed great potential but needed additional time to refine their skills. The challenge: how to support these students in an environment where timelines often dictate outcomes? The solution required courage and innovative thinking. BHANSA, guided by GATE’s professional instructors, decided to prioritize the students’ development over logistical constraints. Together, they designed an extended training plan tailored to the specific areas where these students needed extra focus. Today, we’re proud to announce that all 4 students have completed the extended course and are now ready to begin the next OJT phase at BHANSA. This achievement underlines the power of adaptive learning and the value of putting people before processes. We applaud our partners at BHANSA for their bold decision to embrace a student-focused approach and for trusting GATE’s expertise in developing a successful pathway for all participants. And thank you for showing that great results come from courage, collaboration, and a willingness to step out of the comfort zone.
