Moving people efficiently from A to B has always been one of the greatest challenges facing cities. 🏙️ In Europe, you’ll find a whole spectrum of mobility systems and solutions that we rely on to go about our daily routines. 🚌 🚲 We interviewed Andreas Roehl, Mobility Lead at Gehl, to uncover insights into the contemporary mobility environment, and why this great challenge remains. 💡 Find the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/dzDgbdDN #gehl #gehlpeople #mobility #transport #urbanmobility
Om os
At Gehl, we are committed to creating the future we all want to live in. Gehl is a networked urban strategy and design consultancy, with offices in Copenhagen, New York, and San Francisco, offering expertise in the fields of architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, and city planning. We address global trends using empirical analysis to design for social behavior that drives meaningful change. We work to create a future in which communities have control over their health and well-being; where inclusive neighborhoods and places are designed to encourage a sense of belonging and make it easier for people to take purposeful climate action. Our approach is iterative and holistic, making cities for people and the planet using life-centered data, strategy, and design. We begin by working to understand the existing life of a space before we shape the built environment. It’s these existing activities, user groups, and behavior patterns that inform future visions and designs that invite public life to flourish.

It was a pleasure to meet His Excellency Mayor Fahad Al-Belaihshi in Madinah again last week. The Gehl team spent an immersive week exploring the city’s nature, neighborhoods, and monuments, deepening our understanding of its evolving urban landscape. 🇸🇦🌆 We discussed how Madinah’s living heritage, its artists, craftspeople, farmers, and residents, can shape the future while honoring the past. By enhancing everyday quality of life, the city is strengthening its identity as a global model for sustainable urbanism and resilient public spaces, while preparing to welcome 30 million visitors annually by 2030. 💫 Under the Mayor’s leadership, bold initiatives are creating a thriving, inclusive, and future-ready city — where urban design, research, and policy work together to build long-term resilience. 🤝 Grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this vision and to be part of inspiring conversations that push the boundaries of what’s possible. Exciting work ahead! 🚀 #gehlpeople #madinah #saudiarabia #sustainableurbanism #publicspaces #futurecities

Cities have the potential to shape the way we live and encourage behaviors that scale climate action. In the next 15 years, we need to embrace a new urban behaviors — from adopting plant-based diets to choosing zero-emission transport like walking and cycling. 🌱 🚲 To unlock this potential, we need to create spaces where culture, infrastructure, and desire align to make new behaviors not just possible, but irresistibly easy and enjoyable. This requires designing environments that nudge us toward change.🚶♀️💡 #gehlpeople #sustainablecities #urbaninnovation #climateaction #humancentereddesign #citiesforpeople #climatesolutions

Gehl is thrilled to have been involved in the public kick-off event for the Perth Towards 2036 project. 🎉 Despite busy schedules before the summer break, City of Perth staff and surveyors gained some valuable insights into how the central city is used, and they also had a lot of fun in the process! We witnessed incredible number of people of all ages and backgrounds visiting the city — a tribute to all the activation and events planning efforts around the city. 🇦🇺 We also had the privilege of working alongside long-term Gehl expert surveyors Brett Wood-Gush and Barbara Meldrum, who also contributed to the 1993 and 2009 survey studies. City of Perth staff completed the final round of Public Space Public Life surveys last week, and the observational fun continued with ice cream breaks and sunny picnics by the riverfront. ☀️ Thanks to Amanda Mannolini, Venesa Viskovich, Jamie Lowen, and the City of Perth team for an amazing effort and a great first trip for Gehl. We look forward to sharing the insights from the survey work soon! 💡

The ability to live a healthy life is the ongoing balance between stressors put on us and resources made available to us, our socioeconomic conditions, and the environments we experience every day. ⚖️ In fact, 80% of our well-being comes from our everyday surroundings. 🌳 A neighborhood-level approach to urban health recognizes that change starts within the community and that our health is multigenerational and historic. By considering the materiality and ecology of places and investing in the design of our streets, public spaces, civic amenities, and social infrastructure, we can ensure we meet our social and biological needs for good health. ⭐ #gehlpeople #health #healthycities #healthylife

Cities affect people in diverse ways, offering opportunities to some while posing challenges to others. 🌆 When it comes to urban strategy and design, creating spaces that are safe, inspire a sense of belonging, and provide people with agency begins with a deep understanding of the communities we are designing with and for. 💛 This means taking extra steps to ask the right questions, forge stronger partnerships, and reach further with data to find representative stories of people’s true lived experiences. 🤝 #gehlpeople #equity #inclusivecities #inclusion #inclusivespaces
