With the vision of a net positive fashion industry, it drives action by mobilising, inspiring, influencing and educating all stakeholders. The organisation has been leading the movement since 2009 and presents the renowned international forum on sustainability in fashion, Global Fashion Summit in core fashion regions around the world. GFA influences policy through its advocacy efforts including the Global Textiles Policy Forum, publishes thought leadership including The GFA Monitor, Fashion CEO Agenda and Fashion on Climate, implements impact programmes including the Circular Fashion Partnership and the Global Circular Fashion Forum, presents educational guidance through the GFA Academy, and connects companies with solutions through the Innovation Forum. Working in partnership with a wide ecosystem of companies and organisations across the value chain, GFA spearheads the fashion industry’s journey towards a more sustainable future. We’re excited to share that Global Fashion Agenda has contributed a case to the newly released white paper, “Creativity as a Driver for Quality of Life,” published by Creative Denmark. This white paper explores how creative approaches are tackling today’s most pressing global challenges, from climate change to social cohesion, highlighting the crucial role of creativity in improving quality of life. In our contribution, we spotlight the Renewable energy Initiative, which is a groundbreaking offshore wind project in Bangladesh, developed by GFA with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). This pioneering partnership between the energy and fashion sectors enables brands like BESTSELLER and H&M Group, who have committed $100M, to invest in renewable energy. CIP is working with local partner Summit Power to develop the wind park, boosting renewable energy availability in Bangladesh. The masterclass highlighted the implications of the recent California Responsible Textile Recovery Bill. Speakers, including Yana Garcia, California Secretary for Environmental Protection, and Eric Liedtke, CEO & Founder of UNLESS, shared valuable insights on how fashion brands can drive change and the role of the public sector in building essential infrastructure. Earlier today, the GFA Assembly at #ClimateWeekNYC brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and sustainability advocates at Nike NYHQ to tackle some of fashion's most urgent sustainability challenges through action-focused roundtables. The morning's discussions centred on key topics, including circularity, policy, and regenerative agriculture, followed by a networking lunch to further exchange ideas and strengthen partnerships. Key discussions included: ᭼ Stitching Compliance: EU's Legislation Impact on US Textiles and Apparel – Delving into the implications of new EU regulations on compliance practices within the US textiles and apparel sectors. ᭼ Circular Systems for Footwear, in collaboration with Nike – Examining innovative strategies for creating circular economies in the footwear industry to minimise waste and resource use. ᭼ Strengthening Corporate Accountability to Scale Regenerative Agriculture, in collaboration with WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, OP2B, and Textile Exchange – Highlighting the importance of regenerative agriculture in fashion and the need for greater corporate responsibility in environmental stewardship. ᭼ Indigenous Partnership Principles for the Fashion, Apparel, and Textile Industry, in collaboration with Ralph Lauren, Conservation International, and Textile Exchange – Discussing how to foster meaningful collaborations with Indigenous communities to enhance biodiversity and preserve traditional craftsmanship.
