Intelligent Systems: Leveraging AI for Environmental Perception and Control Navigating real-world environments, whether guiding robots or managing biological processes, is complex and unpredictable. In this Tech Talk, Associate Professor Petar Durdevic from Aalborg University will share research from his lab, where he and his team use artificial intelligence (AI) to interpret and control intricate environments. The talk will focus on deep learning methods designed to meet the unique challenges of complex environments. “For example, when you drive along a road, the rules of traffic are known to us, and we all follow the same rules. But inside a wind turbine, there are no roadmaps or rules, and it’s more difficult to navigate this type of environment. Our research can help improve this navigation. I will be presenting research on sensor technology, robot technology and how we can use these to optimize systems and make them safer, more efficient, and reliable,” Peter Durdevic says. The team’s research integrates data from different sources, such as images and sensors, to train AI models capable of making sense of these environments. These models enable the creation of simulations that train systems to navigate and manage both 3D and 2D spaces, benefiting applications like robotics and automated process control. Attendees will gain insights into how AI-based systems are developed and applied to better capture, understand, and manage the dynamic nature of real-world settings. 🌏 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗮𝗿𝗱 At some point, many of us realize that life isn’t always a straight path and that we don’t live forever. For Thomas Bartholdy F. Neergaard, this realization has led to an exciting new chapter. After three years as Scientific Director at Helix Lab, Thomas has chosen to step away from his role to pursue a lifelong dream: exploring the world. As Thomas says: "The time is right for us now, not in ten years when we might not be able." This winter, he’ll begin his journey in Australia with his wife, embarking on the first of many adventures, and his decision reminds us of the courage it takes to embrace what feels right, even when it means leaving a career path to follow a personal one. We at Helix Lab wholeheartedly support Thomas in this decision and are inspired by his commitment to living authentically and intentionally. Congratulations, Thomas – we wish you nothing but the best! ✨
