"Målrettet uddannelsesindsats skal styrke kvantetalentet i Danmark!" Det skriver Uddannelses- og Forskningsministeriet, der støtter to af vores kvanteprojekter på Syddansk Universitet - University of Southern Denmark. På Det Naturvidenskabelige Fakultet er vi utroligt taknemmelige for ministeriets støtte og opbakning. Kvantecomputere kommer til at revolutionere vores verden og uddannelse af fremtidens specialister inden for området bliver afgørende for Danmarks konkurrenceevne. Først og fremmest er der tale om tre års støtte under etablering af den nye kandidatuddannelse med navnet Quantum Computing, hvor førende forskere fra Centre for Quantum Mathematics (QM) står for undervisningen. Uddannelsen er en overbygning for bachelorer med baggrund fra primært matematik, datalogi og fysik. Målet med projektstøtten fra ministeriet er at øge antallet af studerende inden for kvantecomputing og udvikling af kvantesoftware for dermed at styrke Danmarks position inden for feltet på længere sigt. Dernæst har universitetet fået projektstøtte til undervisningsforløb om kvanteteknologier i Region Syddanmark. Sigtet er at øge kendskabet til kvanteteknologi og tiltrække flere studerende til SDU’s kvanterelaterede uddannelser. Denne indsats indebærer undervisningsforløb, camps og foredrag for gymnasieelever og bachelorstuderende. Projektet skal øge nysgerrigheden for kvanterelaterede emner og bygge bro til at flere unge søger videre uddannelse inden for kvanteområdet. Welcome to our section, Afsaneh, Henry, and Lukas! We are looking forward to seeing your contributions in research and collaboration within our community! Afsaneh M. Nejad joined us at Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (IMADA), University of Southern Denmark (SDU) as an Assistant Professor this fall. Previously, she served as an Assistant Professor in the Biostatistics section at the Department of Public Health at SDU. She holds a Ph.D. degree (2021) in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics from SDU. Before her Ph.D., she graduated in Applied Mathematics (2017) from SDU. Her research interests focus on the development and application of statistical and machine learning methods to analyze biological and medical data. Henry Kirveslahti received his PhD in Statistical Science at Duke University, NC, USA, after which he spent two years as a scientist at the Laboratory for Topology and Neurosciences at EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland. His research interests include Applied Topology, Bayesian Statistics, Machine Learning and their applications to Biology and Imaging. He also has industry experience in software consulting. He joined our section as an Assistant Professor in Statistics at the beginning of the fall semester. And last, but not least, Lukas Galke also joined us in September as an Assistant Professor of Data Science and Advanced Machine Learning. Before that, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen, Netherlands. Lukas received his B.Sc. (2013), M.Sc. (2017), and PhD degree (2022), all in computer science, from Kiel University, Germany. His research interests lie in machine learning and natural language processing, aiming to make neural network models more trustworthy and interpretable. #IMADAsdu #DataScience #Statistics

There are now more than 12,000 users on UCloud! 🎉 This incredible achievement underscores the growing demand for user-friendly, high-performance computing (#HPC) solutions in the research and academic communities.🌐 UCloud’s success story began at the SDU eScience Center with a vision to revolutionize and democratize digital research by providing easy access to powerful computational resources. The success continued with the formation of the DeiC Interactive HPC consortium in 2020, making UCloud available to all Danish researchers. Reaching 12,000 users stands as a testament to the dedication and innovation of the consortium and our unwavering commitment to supporting researchers across various fields. As we celebrate this significant milestone, we remain committed to further enhancing UCloud’s capabilities and expanding our community. The journey doesn’t end here; we are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. Just recently, we attended the Digital Tech Summit in Copenhagen to further our collaboration with industry, and it is clear that the potential of UCloud is huge! 🚀 #AI, #digitalresearch #innovation

På DASERA-seminaret i Nyborg den 4.-5. november skal deltagerne undersøge, diskutere og forholde sig til, hvordan æstetiske læreprocesser kan understøtte egen og andres forbundethed med naturen, så vi ser os selv som en del af naturen, og naturen som en del af vores egen identitet. Seminaret er for forskere i naturfagsdidaktik på tværs af professionshøjskoler, eksterne læringsmiljøer og universiteter. Natur-forbundethed er et begreb, som har stor opmærksomhed i det naturfagsdidaktiske landskab, fordi menneskers oplevelse af at være en del af naturen kan indgå i vores håndtering af samfundsmæssige problemstillinger som fx biodiversitets- og klimakrise. På seminaret bliver bordsamtaler og workshops kædet sammen af keynote taler og oplæg:  De tre sektorers arbejde med naturforbundethed bliver præsenteret af Elisabeth Bodin og Louise Hauerberg, henholdsvis formidlingschef og souschef fra Louisiana Børnehus, Liv Mejer Larsen, studieadjunkt på Grønlands Universitet, og Mette Fredslund Andersen, lektor på læreruddannelsen på Københavns Professionshøjskole. Professor David Sheffield, Derby University, fortæller om den nyeste forskning inden for naturforbundethed. Katia Bill Nielsen, postdoc på IND, taler om science identitet. Professor Marianne Ødegaard holder oplæg om æstetiske læreprocesser. FNUGs leder, Professor Connie Svabo runder seminaret af med en opsamling på de to dages arbejde og refleksioner.
