There is abundance of sustainability jargon existing within corporate sustinability goals. Beyond this, many frameworks and guidance exist on how to achieve these goals, making it difficult at times to know how to proceed. 📎 With a lot of attention around climate claims (like the EU Green Claims Act and more) it is important to understand the differences and make an informed decision for your sustainability strategy. Both “carbon neutral” and “net zero” refer to balancing emissions with removals, yet they differ in nuance. So, where does carbon removal fit in? According to supranational frameworks like SBTi: 1️⃣ Whether you are striving for a carbon neutral or net zero target, high-quality carbon removal is a credible choice to tackle residual emissions. 2️⃣ The use of high-quality carbon removal at the same time as reductions is the key to meeting our climate goals. We are excited to partner with Momentum Energy Group A/S for a two-year agreement to provide them with carbon removal credits. Momentum Energy Group specialises in managing, developing and investing in wind and solar projects across Denmark, Germany, and Sweden. They are investing in a portfolio of carbon removal projects that balance climate impact with important co-benefits such as biodiversity and local development. In this collaboration, Klimate will procure carbon removal on their behalf, equal to the emissions from non-electric energy use in Scope 1 and 2, covering the 2022–2024 period in the first year and the 2025 emissions in the second year. We are glad to work with a value-aligned organisation whose mission is to lead and inspire others in green transition. Klimate has joined 33 signatories, including industry and NGOs, in calling on EU negotiators to ensure that the Green Claims Directive clarifies requirements for companies' climate claims and enables highly-needed private investments in permanent carbon removals. Why? By setting clear and science-based rules on climate claims, the GCD can protect consumers from greenwashing while accelerating investment in critical, permanent carbon removal solutions.
