📃 In light of the new European Commission being formed, Klimate has joined a number of organisations to ensure the role of carbon removals in the EU’s fight against climate change. 🌍 We're proud to write alongside 42 other businesses and sector partners,to Climate Commissioner-designate Wopke Hoekstra, urging him to adopt a set of policies to support a sustainable scale-up of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) in the next EU mandate. Comprehensive inclusion of CDR is critical to reaching EU climate goals. But, it is also an opportunity to enhance EU competitiveness and job creation, as it’s suggested by 2050, Europe’s CDR industry could grow into a €220 billion annual market. Carbon removal is critical to reaching net zero. This must be translated into clear policy mechanisms to ensure adequate funding, demand, and integrity to develop the market here in the EU and beyond. We’re still thinking about the amazing time had by our CIO Simon Bager, PhD and Head of Carbon Removal Lauren Brown when they visited a number of suppliers (current and potential) in and around Nairobi, Kenya. Site visits add an extra layer of assurance and allow us to see the tech our worldwide network of suppliers are developing in person. This is also an opportunity for us to see and share the impact of credits sold in helping projects scale and develop. Plus, it’s a great to connect with our usually digital collaborators. 🗻 🌍 Hello from Nairobi, Kenya on site with Octavia Carbon! 🗻 🌍 It’s an exciting week, as our CIO Simon Bager, PhD and Head of Carbon Removal Lauren Brown are in Kenya to visit a number of suppliers and project sites. Starting with our supplier Octavia Carbon, Tuesday and Wednesday started off with the manufacturing site in Nairobi and DAC facility in Naivasha. Project visits are critical to our mission to get hands on verification of the tech our worldwide network of suppliers are developing. These relationships enable the scaling of carbon removal and, therefore, our mission to help companies reach net zero.
