We are pleased to welcome Juan Camilo Rodriguez-Toro, an Electrical Engineer who joined our HVAC department in Cadiz, Spain, last fall. Juan Camilo brings with him eighteen years of experience in the naval sector, including nine years as an officer in the Colombian Navy. More than half of his career has been dedicated to HVAC and refrigeration systems, with a particular enthusiasm for designing and commissioning air conditioning and refrigeration control systems. He has worked extensively with shipyards in Colombia, Peru, and Spain 🌍. In his leisure time, Juan Camilo enjoys playing tennis, watching football, engaging in photography, and traveling to explore new destinations, cultures, and local cuisines. Pablo has a solid background in naval engineering and is originally from Mérida, Spain. He likes to play the piano and guitar in his free time, read fantasy and science fiction novels, as well as participate in sports like basketball, tennis, and scuba diving. He has a long list of countries he wants to visit and enjoys traveling and exploring new places. KNUD E. HANSEN is pleased to announce that DNV - Maritime has granted Approved in Principle (AiP) for the design of a type-C liquified CO2 tank. Intensive use of FEM has been applied for analyzing all the aspects of the tank to the satisfaction of DNV – Maritime. The tank has been designed as part of the design of a liquified CO2 carrier. The work has been carried out for our client INEOS Energy as part of the Project Greensand where CO2 captured from CO2 emitters at shore is stored under the North Sea (referred to as Carbon Capture and Storage, CCS). KNUD E. HANSEN has been responsible for the following key elements of the liquified CO2 carrier: 🔹 Ship design including DP2 and bow / turret unloading system integration, 🔹 Waste heat management for improved OPEX during CO2 conditioning, 🔹 Design of type-C tanks to the approved in principle stage, 🔹 Process system to condition the CO2 and injection it with high pressure into the reservoir, 🔹 3D model for coordination of cargo deck layout. The 2024 #HIPERSymposium was held from the 10th to 12th June in at the majestic Kloster Drubeck in Germany. The conference focuses on all aspects of research and cutting-edge technologies that promise to drive the future of the shipping industry.   Future fuels, emission control, wind and hybrid propulsion, hull and propeller optimisation, digital twins, hull cleaning and smart operations, the three-day program was packed with promising and thought-provoking presentations from a healthy international mix of delegates representing owners, suppliers, consultants and academia.   Ken Goh from #KNUDEHANSEN presented a concept study for a fuel cell powered bulk carrier to show the many advantages such a vessel will bring. Although it will take many years for fuel cell technology to scale for mass utilization, there production and cost is trending at the same rate as solar panels and batteries had in the past two decades. The study demonstrates KNUD E. Last week, the 4th-grade students from #Hornbækskole visited our office in Elsinore to demonstrate their homemade ship models. They put their creations to the test to see if they could float while carrying a cargo of two cans of soda. The students got very creative, building their ship models with recycled materials. We proudly presents the first images of the 70-meter Arctic Research Vessel (KEH ARV-70), meticulously designed for the Danish National Institute of Aquatic Resources (DTU Aqua). Over the past year, the Dansk Dana Konsortium (DDK)—a partnership between #KNUDEHANSEN (KEH) and OMT - Odense Maritime Technology (OMT)—has transformed the initial 68-meter concept into an extensive 70-m tender design. This evolution encompasses comprehensive engineering, propeller design, model testing (ice, maneuvering, seakeeping, cavitation, and self-propulsion tests), underwater noise analysis, and innovative measures to minimize bubble sweep down, culminating in a state-of-the-art Polar-class research vessel.
