Om os
With Kulbroen (the Coal Bridge) we want to lead the way in a sustainable development of Sydhavnen (the South Harbor) in Aarhus, Denmark PAST: About 160 meters of track for coal cranes towers over Sydhavnen, eight meters above the harbor front. That is Kulbroen, which used to transport coal to the city’s gas plant in the 1950s and 60s. PRESENT: We are creating a public space for the citizens of Aarhus. We are very involved in the development of Sydhavnen. Kulbro Lab is the house just below Kulbroen and home to our organization. From here, we work to use our knowledge about Kulbroen and Sydhavnen, experience in city development and a network of individuals who make things happen. FUTURE: The City of Aarhus has approved a plan for the new Kulbroen which will be the beginning and a guideline for the further development of Sydhavnen. The winning proposal in a large-scale architectural design competition was created by a local team consisting of TRANSFORM, Dissing+Weitling, Lendager Group, Søren Jensen and VEGA landskab. We are thrilled to reveal that the immersive art piece, Myriads by Christian Skjødt Hasselstrøm, will be open to the public September 28 through October 18 at Observatoriebeholderen in Aarhus. As part of our underground art project, Christian Skjødt Hasselstrøm has developed Myriads, a stunning exploration of sound, space, and sensory perception. True to the five characteristic qualities of our upcoming art experience — Sacral, Transgressive, Sensory, Simplicity, and Enlightenment — Myriads takes you on a journey through the hidden world beneath our feet, engaging with Aarhus in a completely new way. About the artist: Christian Skjødt Hasselstrøm is an artist and composer whose work bridges the intersection of sound, visual art, and science. Deeply fascinated by the limits of human perception and cognition, Christian uses technology to extend sensory boundaries, creating artworks that serve as thresholds between our sensory apparatus and otherwise imperceptible phenomena. Through his installations, he encourages reflection and contemplation by offering alternative ways of sensing and interacting with our surroundings. Christian’s work has been showcased internationally, from Ars Electronica Festival in Linz to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denmark, and he has participated in prestigious residencies and been honored with awards such as the Japan Media Arts Festival and Prix Ars Electronica. This project, including the creation of Myriads, has been made possible with the generous support of Kirsten og Gunnar Fonden and in collaboration with Aarhus Vand. The project is part of Kongelunden Aarhus. We invite you to immerse yourself in Myriads — a unique artistic experience that challenges how we perceive sound and space. Stay tuned as we dive deeper into Christian’s artistic journey with this project. Learn more about his previous work at: www.skjodthasselstrom.com.
