In two years, video surveillance-as-a-service (VSaaS) will represent almost half of the security software market in the United States. But why are organizations moving from on-premise to cloud-based security software? There are three main reasons: Reducing IT strain: Managing and retaining skilled IT professionals is challenging. To take some of the pressure off overstretched teams, many organizations are choosing to outsource the maintenance and hosting of their surveillance system. Minimizing capital expenditure: Some organizations are also trying to avoid the large, up-front investments that are often associated with on-prem security. The subscription model of VSaaS provides a compelling alternative, as it moves surveillance costs to recurring/operational expenditure. Providing 24/7 remote connectivity: Another growing preference is for constant system access without needing VPN tunnels or other methods traditionally required to view camera feeds in a specific network. Yet again, VSaaS ticks the box; letting customers access live and recorded video from pretty much anywhere with an internet connection. But is cloud-based surveillance a cyber security risk? Is it powerful enough to help with important security jobs? Check out this article to find out: https://lnkd.in/erepeGHk

What's next for video security software? We asked our partners what they think will be possible in the coming years, and many of them talked about the potential of artificial intelligence. While this has been and remains to be a hot topic in 2025, how does AI actually work in the context of processing videos? And how is it different from metadata or machine learning? If you know the answers, let us know in the comments below. We also discuss the question in this article about three ongoing trends within video security: https://lnkd.in/e8Ybn-pX

How do you inspire the next generation to become the new pioneers in tech? We believe the answer is to engage, educate, and empower young minds by fostering a culture of curiosity—even if it means asking difficult questions. Recently, we hosted a group of students from Odder Gymnasium at our Copenhagen office, offering them a glimpse into the world of technology and innovation. During their visit, our CEO, Thomas Jensen, introduced the students to the core values and global presence of Milestone Systems. He emphasized how data-driven video technology helps people, businesses, and societies learn from the past, understand the present, and predict the future. Our VP of Global Communications, Lisbeth Nedergaard, shared insights into our Public Affairs initiatives, explaining how advocating for responsible technology can influence both national and global legislation to ensure the ethical use of AI and other modern technologies are not just empty promises. Dr. Barry Norton, our VP of Human-Centered AI, delivered a fascinating presentation on the history, mathematics, and ethics of artificial intelligence—from the early inception of AI to neural networks and modern reinforcement learning. Barry highlighted the remarkable contributions of marginalized pioneers like Ada Lovelace, Alan Turing, emphasizing the importance of recognizing their impact on the field. He also unpacked the complexities of facial recognition, demonstrating that its benefits, when implemented ethically, outweigh the concerns often associated with the term. We hope to ignite a passion in young students to pursue careers in tech and contribute to a future where technology serves humanity. This experience was rewarding for us all, and we look forward to continuing our efforts to inspire the next generation of tech enthusiasts. #TechEducation #ResponsibleTechnology #MilestoneSystems #AI

Our aim is to get better prepared for security challenges into the future-innovation, collaboration, and strong commitments towards upskilling initiatives. At the Security Industry Conference 2024, hosted by the TP-SII Security Industry Institute, an announcement of a special collaboration was made: Canon Singapore Pte Ltd and Temasek Polytechnic have jointly announced the launch of the Security Technology Experience Center by 2025. With support from leading industry giants such as Milestone Systems, Axis Communications, and BriefCam, this program will focus on equipping security professionals with the skills and awareness needed to operate in the changing technological environment. But why is this important? • Technology is rewriting the security industry. As AI, machine learning, and IoT are shaping the future, so do security solutions get smarter and more responsive. • The human touch is irreplaceable, though. While innovating, our goal is not just efficiency but to create more intelligent solutions that work with, not replace, human judgment. • Collaboration is the key. And this initiative shows how partnerships can lead the way in preparing a future-ready workforce. The event then stirred discussions on the role of the next-gen SMART security officer. Emphasis was made on how to use technology to make others safer. Investing in innovation and collaboration is not only about staying ahead but about creating a safer and more resilient future for all. It’s time we unite technology with human potential to create lasting, meaningful change. Read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/dKE49PyB

Every university needs a vigilant campus guardian to keep their students and staff safe. Black Hills State University in South Dakota set a new standard in campus security. What approach helped them to make the grade? The university managed to avoid common pitfalls in campus security projects, such as departmental silos and proprietary technologies. Thanks to that, they established a model system that enhances the school experience by assisting Public Safety in investigations, IT in maintenance, and Facilities in weather monitoring. The solution itself is a centralized video system using open-platform technology. This system unifies their main and satellite campuses with just a few clicks, enables cross-department access, and scales easily to support future growth.
