“At COP29, the world unites on a pivotal stepping-stone towards a low-carbon future. A connected greener world is needed,” says Michael C. Hjorth, CCO at NKT. We are happy to participate in the upcoming COP29, where we will address the importance of power grid modernization and expansion to facilitate the integration of growing renewable energy sources and improve cross-border energy flows. A great example is the Champlain Hudson Power Express, which will facilitate the transmission of sustainable hydropower from Quebec, Canada, to New York City, USA: https://lnkd.in/d7TGReBs #WeConnectAGreenerWorld #COP29
Countdown to COP29: Securing energy distribution and integration⚡ At COP29 Azerbaijan, Denmark and the rest of EU, will put security of supply, grid and cross-border interconnectors on the agenda. It will be the first year with a specific Danish sector focus on this area, featuring its own theme and Danish partners representing the sector. With a security of electricity supply at more than 99.99%, Denmark has set ambitious goals in the area, advancing towards a fossil-free energy system by 2050, integrating over 70% renewable energy into its smart grid. Connecting the energy grids across Europe is crucial for the green transition and an efficient and robust energy market. This year Baltic Cable, which runs 250 kilometres between Lübeck-Herrenwyk in Germany and Kruseberg in Sweden, can celebrate 30 years of operations. “We appreciate the invitation to the celebration and the long-term, excellent working relationship with Baltic Cable. We also extend our congratulations on many years of successfully showcasing the importance of interconnectors,” says Magnus Röstlund, VP and Head of Engineering and Material Technology at NKT. The interconnector is also of significant importance for the NKT history and Swedish operation. “Baltic Cable holds a special place for many of our employees. It was the first cable produced in Verkö, Karlskrona, and was also the reason why ABB relocated to Karlskrona many years ago. Today, the factory is a cornerstone facility for NKT, and Baltic Cable continues to play an important role in terms of maintenance and repairs," says Magnus Röstlund. The interconnector is a 250 km double armoured, single conductor submarine HVDC cable. The power transmission distance is 260 km in total and operated at 440 kV. #WeConnectAGreenerWorld #interconnector #energytransition

“What kind of Europe do we want to have in 20 years?” asks NKT’s CCO Michael C. Hjorth in the DI Energi (DI Danish Energy Industries) podcast “Energy for the Future”. The massive expansion of wind power in Denmark was the starting point for a debate on the current European energy agenda including the need for fairer trade rules. “It is important that we do the right things in the right way. European competitiveness is not only about free trade but also about fair trade. This is a significant debate in the electricity industry, where we face a lot of competition from Asia, where they play by different rules than we do here in Europe. There is an imbalance, and we must be aware that it will impact what Europe will look like in 20 to 30 years. We need companies that contribute to societal values, including job creation, which we aspire to uphold in Europe,” says Michael C. Hjorth. The podcast also features Troels Ranis, Senior Vice President and Managing Director at DI Energi, Ulrik Stridbæk, VP and Head of Regulatory Affairs at Ørsted, and Hanne Storm Edlefsen, VP at Energinet. Thanks to the debaters, host Søren Vejby and DI Energi for the invitation. Weitere Informationen: https://lnkd.in/dbmkmEPU nkt-startet-verlegung-des-deutschen-stromkabelkorridors-suedLink-für-tennet
