Creating a world that runs entirely on green energy.

Om os

Ørsted’s vision is a world that runs entirely on green energy. We develop, construct and operate offshore and onshore wind farms, solar farms and energy storage facilities, bioenergy plants and provide energy products to our customers. A decade ago, we initiated our transformation from a black to a green energy company as DONG Energy. In 2017, we divested our upstream oil and gas business, thereby completing our transformation to become fully dedicated to green energy. Our transformation means that we’ve become too green for our name. DONG, originally short for Danish Oil and Natural Gas, is no longer an accurate description of who we are, or who we want to be. So now we’re Ørsted. Learn more about our history as DONG Energy on linkedin.com/DONGEnergy

That’s a world’s first!   We've used heavy-lift cargo drones for the first time in an operational campaign at our Borssele 1 & 2 Offshore Wind Farm in the Netherlands.   The 70 kg drones – which have a wingspan of 2.6 m – can transport up to 100 kg of cargo and will help improve operational efficiency and safety while reducing carbon emissions from operating an offshore wind farm.   In this specific case, we’ve decided to update some critical evacuation and safety equipment in each of the wind turbines at the Dutch offshore wind farm. Normally, a vessel would sail from one wind turbine to the next, using several different cranes to lift each box to the top of the wind turbine. Instead, the drone simply flew back and forth from an offshore supply vessel directly to the top of the nacelle, allowing us to update the equipment 10-15 times faster than normally. ‘Soft and fuzzy’ aren’t words we typically use when talking about Hornsea 3, the world’s single largest commercial offshore wind farm. But now that the first kittiwake chick has hatched at our purpose-built artificial nesting structure off the coast of Lowestoft, UK, we can’t help but chirp about this small and fluffy – but meaningful – sign that we're making good on our commitments to safeguard the environment.   We aim to protect nature, which includes measures like constructing artificial nesting structures to support the kittiwake, an endangered sea bird. They were built in connection with the Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm project but are located far from the site.   2024 marks the first breeding season since the structures were built, and the team was pleasantly surprised that a nesting pair settled in so quickly.   We hope that birds of a feather will flock together and that this chick will be the first of many hatchlings to benefit from these efforts. 🐣

Project milestone! All landfall HDD ducts have now been successfully installed at Greater Changhua 2b and 4 in Taiwan. 🔧   What are landfall HDD ducts? Glad you asked! Landfall HDD – or ‘horizontal directional drilling’ – ducts are conduits for connecting subsea cables to shore, ensuring a smooth transition from offshore to onshore infrastructure. They do so without disturbing the surface environment, thereby minimising ecological impact, and providing a secure installation path.   Despite initial external obstacles, these ducts were installed well ahead of schedule and mark a significant achievement for the Ørsted project team and all our exceptional partners.   When complete, Greater Changhua 2b and 4 will have a capacity of 920 MW, enough to power one million homes in Taiwan.   #BuildingMoreThanEverBefore

To deliver even more energy to the United States, we are pleased to be working toward the development of four standalone storage projects with Mission Clean Energy. By increasing energy storage across the American Midwest, we’re contributing to making the electrical grid more stable, resilient, and efficient than ever. https://lnkd.in/eShzecRb

Offshore wind turbines are built to withstand extreme weather conditions. Our new hurricane and grid loss simulator can quantify the impacts of these events, leading to smarter design and operational decisions – and ultimately material and carbon savings. 🌀Learn more about this and other recent innovations at https://lnkd.in/dkfUS7ys

🤫 Shh! We’ve got big news, but we’re keeping our voices down.   That’s because we’ve invented a novel technology for installing monopile foundations on our offshore wind projects with even lower noise.   For decades, we’ve been deploying measures to build sustainably and protect ocean life. With this new technology, we’re introducing the next generation of nature-friendly installation methods. The system uses a patented jetting technology attached to the monopile to lower the resistance of the sandy soil, further reducing noise during installation.   We’ve successfully tested this innovative method at our Gode Wind 3 Offshore Wind Farm in Germany, marking a milestone on our net-positive biodiversity journey and a potential game changer for how to build offshore wind.   Read more about the installation system and how Ørsted leads innovation in offshore wind: https://lnkd.in/dM_4NKdZ
