The theme for this year's #WorldMaritimeDay is 'Navigating the future: safety first!', with a focus on the full range of safety regulation implications arising from new and adapted technologies and the introduction of alternative fuels, including measures to reduce GHG emissions in line with International Maritime Organization (IMO) ambitions. As one of the cleanest-burning marine fuels currently available, with LNG, we have an alternative fuel that can be used today to help drive change and meet IMO targets. Longer term, adopting bio LNG can help the shipping industry become more sustainable, and, eventually, carbon neutral. The safety and wellbeing of our employees is at the forefront of everything we do, which is why we implement stringent safety protocols and conduct regular inspections to ensure all fuel transfers are performed to the highest safety standards. Our LNG operations comply with international regulations set by the IMO and the Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel, SGMF - Leading safe maritime decarbonisation, and we provide specialised training for personnel and partners to meet these rigorous safety standards and mitigate risks associated with LNG operations. Peninsula is proud to partner with the University of Gibraltar Maritime Academy to support the next generation of maritime professionals through an extensive cadetship program. As part of the BSc (Hons) Maritime Science program, cadets participate in onboard experiences that fulfill the practical training required for their degrees. Students are given the opportunity of embarking on a transformative journey aboard a bunker vessel, arranged by Peninsula, where they gain critical hands-on experience that complements their academic studies.   One proud parent, Manuel Jesús Villalobos Márquez, whose son Manuel Roman Villalobos Belizon is participating in the cadetship, shared his gratitude: "We are absolutely delighted to pass on our sincere thanks to the amazing Captain Jesus Jimenez Andrades and Iker Arriaga Uribe, as well as all the officers and the professional crew of the Hercules Sun for hosting my son and making him feel so welcome. It's been three years since we made the decision to construct the Levante LNG, our dedicated LNGBV with Scale Gas. We are now suppling LNG as marine fuel to all different types of LNG fuelled vessels. But what impact can LNG have in the long-term? As one of the cleanest-burning marine fuels available, switching to LNG can help to meet IMO'2050 decarbonisation targets, reduce EUAs' compliance costs in Emissions Trading Systems (ETS) and reduce future penalties due to the upcoming Fuel EU from 2025 for ships over 5,000 GT calling at EU ports. Longer term, adopting Bio LNG can help the shipping industry to make the move to a more sustainable fuel proposition and eventually become carbon neutral.
