🌳 SOLID goes offsite 🌳 Last week marked a significant milestone as we brought together the entire SOLID team, including our esteemed Head of Clinical Strategy, Hagop Youssoufian, for the first in-person gathering! The 24 hours were filled with engaging scientific presentations and strategic discussions. However, we also carved out time for personal introductions, a refreshing sunny walk, and indulging in some excellent food. Reflecting on our time together, we're filled with even more enthusiasm to press on with the exciting work ahead of us! Mette Trauelsen John Haurum Claus Haase Thue Schwartz Thomas Frimurer Stine F. Pedersen Hagop Youssoufian Patrick Johnson Eliana Goncalves Alves, PhD Sofie L.

⭐ Funding AND Team news! ⭐ We are happy to announce that Eliana Goncalves Alves, PhD has received funding from Innovation Fund Denmark for a full-time Industrial Postdoc position at SOLID Therapeutics.  Here are some questions to get to know Eliana:   👩🔬Tell us a little bit about your career path so far and how you landed in SOLID Therapeutics  I have always loved biology and labwork, but also have a passion for travelling and meeting new people. Therefore, I moved to Vienna at the beginning of my career to work in the Medical University as a Research Assistant and do my Masters in Molecular Biology. I did my PhD in the Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona, where I worked within childhood cancer and learned how important it is the to develop new drugs for this and other cancers. During my Postdoc in Stine F. Pedersens group at UCPH I got acquainted with the exciting research going on in SOLID Therapeutics, and with my strong background within in vivo oncology models there was a good match, and we decided to apply for an Industrial Postdoc.   🔬 What are you most excited about in your now role?  I find that the drug development process is a very challenging and interesting process, so I am super excited to be part of it from the beginning. I am excited about working together with the rest of the team to growth the company and take it to the next level.  🏄 What do you enjoy doing in your free time?  I really enjoy learning new things and that is why I have several hobbies, but if I have to choose just one it would have to be surfing. I love being in the ocean and there are no two sessions that are the same. Since I have moved to Copenhagen I have started playing Ultimate Frisbee which is an amazing welcoming community. I also have a love for books, so I always carry a book (or my e-reader) with me.   Please join us in welcoming Eliana to the team! 🌟

🎉 Funding AND Team news! 🎉 We are happy to announce that our researcher Sofie L. has received funding from Innovation Fund Denmark for a full-time Industrial PhD position at SOLID Therapeutics. Sofie will be working with loads of cool stuff in the lab, such as CRISPR, various in vitro assays with all of our cancer cell models – creating exciting scientific progress!    Even though Sofie has been at SOLID for over a year, we thought we’d give you the chance to get to know her a little. 🎓Q: What’s your background and how did you end up at SOLID? A: My academic background is a Master of Science in Engineering from Lund University. And when it was time for me to find a place to conduct my master thesis I got connected with co-founder Thue Schwartz via my mentor Thomas Högberg. After finishing my master thesis in the lab of Thue at the University of Copenhagen I had gotten an insight into the interesting work they were doing at SOLID, and when it was time for SOLID to hire someone to do lab work (and a little bit of SoMe and CVI) – they asked me if I wanted to join the team, which I was very happy about as it seemed like a match made in heaven! 🧬Q: What are you most excited about in this new role and as a PhD student in general? A: As someone with an engineering background I have had to learn a lot of new concepts and techniques in the field of cancer research, this for me has been so much fun and I’m very much looking forward to learn loads more! But mostly I’m eager to be able to contribute more to the amazing research done at SOLID as it is a cause I’m very passionate about! 🤿Q: And lastly, what do you like to do during your free-time? A: I really enjoy both scuba diving and skiing! But that I cannot do every week, so I really like spending time with family and friends playing board games and eating good food. And I also like to do some running! Please join us in congratulating Sofie to her new role!

💬 "It has been fantastic for us to have the financial support and framework to develop the company at BII, first in Venture Lab and now in Venture House. But raising money independently of BioInnovation Institute, especially with the challenging investment climate in mind, we see as a huge validation" says Mette Trauelsen 💬 Read the full article by MedWatch, interviewing our CEO Mette Trauelsen about SOLID Therapeutics latest funding by Export and Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO). https://lnkd.in/d-HQkE7H

👋 We have the pleasure of introducing you all to a new SOLID Team member; Patrick Johnson – Head of Medicinal Chemistry   Patrick has an impressive and very fitting background as a Principal scientist at Pfizer and Leo Pharma. For you to get to know Patrick a bit more (than what is available by light LinkedIn stalking), we asked him some questions:   Q: What sparked your interest for chemistry/medicinal chemistry? 🥼 A: I think, looking back, my interest in chemistry was sparked whilst at secondary school in the UK, where I grew up. I had a very good chemistry teacher, his classes were always very practical, and we were allowed to run experiments ourselves which made the lessons fun and engaging 👨🔬 💥   Q: What are you most excited about in this new role at SOLID? A: My new role with Solid Tx is particularly exciting, for me as a medicinal chemist, as I join the company at a time when we have compounds that are tantalizingly close to being fit to be successful in our next milestone study (in vivo POC in mice) and, hopefully, I can use my experience to help to nudge them over the edge.   Q: When not designing SOLID Tx’s next compounds, what do you like to do during your free time? A: During my free time I enjoy doing practical stuff like cooking, gardening and DIY but also like to socialize with friends, particularly over a pint (or two) 🍻   Please join us in welcoming Patrick to the SOLID team! 🌟

🔔NEW PAPER ALERT🔔 Check out the new paper on GPR81/HCAR1 and how it is driving breast cancer growth and invasiveness through regulation of ECM properties and Notch ligand DLL4, co-authored by several of the SOLID team! 💫 Read it here: https://lnkd.in/ddSFreqD

Thanks - Stine F. Pedersen for your fantastic, SOLID work in carrying through this amazing story - over the last couple of years and more - characterizing how #lactate sensing by #GPR81/ #Hcar1 which is uregulated in basically all SOLID tumors (here breast #cancer) through key cellular signaling mechanisms control cancer cell metabolism and their multiple defence mechanisms and thereby tumor growth. Cell surface lactate receptor GPR81 is crucial for cancer cell survival https://lnkd.in/dNaDSECS It has been - and still is - a great, SOLID collaboration involving multiple students and senior collaborators including: Oksana Dmytriyeva, Mette Trauelsen, Albin Sandelin, Marie Kveiborg, Kathrine Lundø, Eliana Goncalves Alves, PhD, Sofie L. and many others. Thanks.... 🤠
