🥳 Sylvia Health’s First Birthday 🎂 It’s been a year since we embarked on our mission to transform women's pelvic health at Sylvia Health. Our journey began during the BioMedical Design Novo Nordisk Foundation Fellowship Programme, where we witnessed firsthand the profound impact insufficient treatments were having on countless women. This experience motivated us to create products that address the genuine unmet needs within pelvic health, with our first product focusing on rectocele - the most overlooked subtype of prolapse. Some of our highlights: ✅ Secured over 1 million DKK (€135k) in grant funding ✅ Designed and produced medical-grade prototypes in-house ✅ Completed two phases of patient testing to refine our product based on user needs ✅ Filed our first patent ✅ Built an incredible network of leading gynaecologists and clinicians across Europe Our at-home testing revealed a breakthrough: not only does our solution outperform existing standard of care devices, but it also effectively, and uniquely, addresses rectocele-specific symptoms. Looking ahead, we're focused on establishing clinical studies, securing further funding, and growing our team to bring our transformative solution to market. We remain committed to empowering women affected by pelvic organ prolapse to reclaim their quality of life. If you're passionate about advancing women's health with us, please get in touch! If you want to meet in person, we’ll be presenting at TechBBQ in a couple of weeks. More events TBA shortly. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has participated in our testing and provided feedback. Your insights and experiences are invaluable and drive our innovation forward. Here's to another year of progress! #PelvicOrganProlapse #WomensHealth #PelvicHealth #SylviaHealth

We had a fantastic time presenting to Danish Business Angels - DanBAN this week! It was great to have meaningful conversations about our product and future plans. It's reassuring to hear that many of the people we spoke with had already seen the impactful Politiken coverage on pelvic organ prolapse (see Andrew Stretton's post 👇). This kind of awareness is crucial for our mission. Thanks to organisers and hosts Danske Bank Private Banking, Catharina Christiansen, Stine Jersie Olsen Next week, we're looking forward to attending the Decoding the Future of Women conference. Excited to engage with other professionals and continue the conversation on advancing women's health. #PelvicHealth #WomensHealth #SylviaHealth

📰 Headline News: Pelvic Organ Prolapse Gets the Attention It Deserves 📰 Thrilled to see pelvic organ prolapse taking the spotlight as the headline story in Politiken, a leading Danish newspaper. These articles are honestly the best I’ve seen on the subject—informative, accurate, and articulate, they shine a light on the physical and emotional impacts of this condition that affects so many women. Coverage like this is crucial in closing the information gap regarding pelvic organ prolapse. Signe Thomsen does an excellent job explaining the condition and shares nine powerful personal stories. This coverage brings to the forefront the struggles and resilience of women living with prolapse, highlighting the urgent need for better awareness and support. Crucially, it addresses the differences in experience and outcomes for women who receive surgery or pessaries. This underscores the need for more options—effective solutions that address symptoms and fit into the lives of women. At Sylvia Health, we are committed to creating user-centred designs that empower women to effectively manage their pelvic health with confidence. This coverage is a significant step forward in breaking the taboo and encouraging open conversations about women's health. A big thank you to Signe, Politiken, and especially the women who shared their stories. Let’s keep pushing for change and ensuring that every woman gets the care and support she deserves. 📣 Andrew Stretton's post on the concerning rise in gynaecological treatment waiting times was featured by LinkedIn News. With nearly 600,000 women in England waiting for treatment, this underscores the urgent need for action to address the growing disparity in access to essential healthcare services. As waiting times increase, so does the risk to women's health. The demand for minimally invasive pelvic health interventions continues to grow, highlighting the importance of innovative solutions to meet this unmet need. #WomensHealth #PelvicHealth #PelvicOrganProlapse #Gynaecology #HealthcareAccess #SylviaHealth https://lnkd.in/e4iDM3G7

🌟 Celebrating International Women's Day with a Focus on Pelvic Health 🚺 Today, on International Women's Day, we extend our appreciation to all the brilliant women who have participated in our pilot study, contributing to the advancement of our pelvic organ prolapse solution. Your invaluable feedback has enabled us to establish a solid proof-of-concept and embark on the next phase of our journey: at-home testing. With promising feedback from the early stages of this phase, we're confident in our ability to develop a solution that works as users want it to. Through countless conversations with women who have faced challenges within the healthcare system, we've gained profound insights. We understand that solutions for pelvic organ prolapse must address the day-to-day lives and lifestyles of each woman, beyond the confines of a snapshot consultation in a patient-clinician relationship. That's why our focus lies in creating a solution that not only offers accurate support but also empowers women with autonomy and control. Our results thus far indicate that we are making significant strides in realising this vision. It's alarming that over 200 million women suffer from symptomatic pelvic organ prolapse, yet treatment options remain limited. Waiting times for gynaecology appointments are rising, so already underprioritized conditions like prolapse slip further down the list. Primary treatments like surgery and pessaries come with their own set of challenges, including risks, high costs, and high reoperation rates. The fact that half of women using a pessary discontinue within 3-12 months due to expulsion, erosion, discomfort, and inefficiency highlights the urgent need for better solutions. We invite you to explore our company page and website to learn more about us and what we're doing. If you're passionate about driving change in women's health and interested in collaborating with us, we'd love to hear from you. #InternationalWomensDay #PelvicOrganProlapse #PelvicHealth #SylviaHealth #IWD2024 https://sylviahealth.dk/

💡 Building a Healthier Future for Women: Addressing Barriers A troubling new study from the Fawcett Society and Benenden Health sheds light on the challenges women face when seeking medical care. Of the 10,000 women surveyed, a third avoid going to the doctors due to anxiety and embarrassment. Another 38% feel nervous about seeking medical help, while 15% are embarrassed to see a medical professional. These figures are particularly relevant to us at Sylvia Health, as we know first hand the impact of stigma and a lack of awareness surrounding pelvic organ prolapse. Many women hesitate to seek support for their symptoms, unsure of what constitutes "normal" and facing a pervasive knowledge gap. When they do seek medical attention, they are often met with indifference or ignorance, exacerbating the problem. On top of this, the economic consequences of these challenges cannot be ignored. The Fawcett report reveals that 42% of women have seen their professional lives negatively impacted by their health struggles. This aligns with the findings of last month's Closing the Women’s Health Gap report by the World Economic Forum and the McKinsey Health Institute, which underscores the economic imperative of investing in women's health. At Sylvia Health, we are committed to addressing these issues head-on. Our mission is to deliver accessible treatment options for pelvic organ prolapse that improve outcomes for women. Together, let's advocate for a future where every woman has access to the care and support she needs to prioritise her health with confidence. #WomensHealth #PelvicHealth #PelvicOrganProlapse #SylviaHealth #BreakTheStigma https://lnkd.in/eYagna7i

💬 "Many women want to avoid surgery, but they run out of options." This is what a consultant urogynaecologist told us in a meeting this morning. This observation is spot on - research shows that half of women who start pessary treatment discontinue in 3-12 months. The main reasons for are expulsion (falling out), erosion (tissue damage) or simply lack of efficacy. It's a useful reminder of the real, and growing, unmet need Sylvia Health is committed to addressing. We're determined to provide innovative alternatives to surgery, empowering women with more options and better outcomes. #WomensHealth #PelvicHealth #PelvicOrganProlapse #SylviaHealth
