Our first Scrum course of 2025 has been completed! Scrum teacher Jan Reher again captured the attention of the software engineering students and guided them through the theory and practice of Scrum. The students experienced firsthand how Scrum can be applied to real-world challenges, working in teams to overcome obstacles in a tangible way. By focusing on the different talents within their teams, they saw how planning and teamwork improved with each sprint. Anne wasn’t sure how to use her anthropology degree... then she discovered IT. “I had no idea the IT industry needed people with my skill set. As it turns out, social and human science graduates bring so much to the table,” says Anne Riise. Even though bits and bytes matter, IT is more than coding. If software doesn’t align with how people actually work, it won’t be effective in real life. That’s where Anne’s humanistic skills are invaluable. After her Bachelor’s in Anthropology, a former university tutor inspired her to pursue a Master’s in IT Design and Application Development, which turned out to be the perfect fit. She’s now a Senior Implementation & Support Consultant at Systematic, where she helps libraries across Scandinavia and in Germany implement the company’s library software, Cicero. “Of course, not everyone needs to work in IT, but it’s a shame if people don’t even realise it’s an option for them. I can only recommend that you keep an open mind and investigate all your options. You might be surprised at what resonates with you,” she smiles. These past days have been a sugar rush - we’ve celebrated Women’s Day with a mountain of beautifully crafted cakes. Cake alone, though, doesn’t create equality, but it’s a sweet reminder of the progress we celebrate and the work we continue to do. So, during these days, we say it with cake. But throughout the year, we say it with action - through documented equal pay, an internal network for women, and partnerships with schools and universities to inspire more women to pursue careers in IT. Happy Women’s Day!

Software is only half the key to success - the other half is being there, in the field, training and mentoring the users so they get the most out of their systems 🖥️🎯 That is exactly what we did with the British Royal Marines during their first-ever SitaWare Headquarters training and command planning exercise. Split between Plymouth, UK, and Camp Viking in Norway, this exercise provided hands-on experience with mission planning across locations, thus enabling them to fight at range. "Being able to mentor and guide the Royal Marines through the whole process, that is what makes the real difference. It’s not just about the software - it’s about making sure they can actually use it in real-world operations," says Business Development Manager James Munt MSc, who was on-site at the exercise with Defence Trainer Rob Tomlinson and Solution Engineer Richard Neuschulz. With SitaWare Headquarters on their team, the Royal Marines mission planned at the HQ in Plymouth, while keeping real-time lines of communication with deployed troops in Norway. Systematic was there every step of the way to ensure they got the most out of their training. The Royal Marines did an outstanding job embracing this new capability, and we’re excited to continue supporting them as they expand their SitaWare journey across nations. Stay tuned!

The same goes for creating exceptional software. It requires every perspective at the table. In other words: We need more women in IT. Last month, our colleagues Adam Philpotts MBE and Simon T. joined the British Army's Iron Fist Brigade during a large-scale training exercise on Salisbury Plain in the UK.   In modern military operations, making the right decision at the right time depends on having a clear and complete picture of the situation. But that’s not easy when people, vehicles, and command centres are spread out over large areas – and especially when network coverage is limited or unstable.   That’s exactly the challenge our software helps to solve.   At Systematic, we develop advanced command-and-control solutions that give soldiers and commanders a shared, real-time overview – even in tough conditions where internet and satellite signals are unreliable.   “It’s always fun to be out there with the customers, helping them to get the best out of our products. During this exercise, we demonstrated how our technology brings together critical information from across the battlefield and makes sure that everyone – both soldiers on the ground and senior leaders at HQ – has the same, up-to-date data to act quickly, safely, and effectively,” says Adam Philpotts.   In today’s world, working together and sharing knowledge – across teams, units, and allied nations – is not just an advantage. You don’t need a tech background to kill it in IT; coding isn’t the only skill in high demand. Surprised? Meet Ida Marie Friis Nakskov, our Deployment Manager Specialist. Customers, software developers, and business teams all bring different perspectives to the table, and to create the best possible IT solution, their expertise has to come together - but they need someone in the middle who understands them all. That’s Ida. As a linguistic high school graduate, IT wasn’t initially on her radar. She was drawn to processes, change management, coordination, and communication without realising that these are all core elements of IT. “I guess I had a very narrow view of what ‘IT’ meant. Hardcore coding is important, but so many other skills are also needed to make an IT solution work -project and change management, process design, coordination, creativity, business sense, and understanding the people who will actually use the technology,” she says. Head-hunters scoured the market for the perfect candidate - someone with deep industry knowledge, strong leadership skills, and a proven track record in healthcare innovation. And guess what? The best person for the job was already in our midst. After nearly a decade of shaping Systematic’s healthcare solutions, Heidi Pedersen was the natural choice to step into the role as Group Senior Vice President of Systematic Healthcare Operations. Most recently, she was Vice President for our care record Columna Cura and for our new healthcare solution for soldiers, Battlefield Health, and now, she is ready to take our healthcare business to the next level. “Systematic’s Healthcare business is at a really interesting stage. We’re delivering solid, highly relevant products with real international potential. At the same time, the healthcare sector is evolving; both in Denmark and internationally, we’re seeing exciting new reforms, and there is an increased focus on better integration across different areas of the healthcare system – something that has always been at the core of Systematic. While everyone's talking about AI chatbots, we're using artificial intelligence for something far more important 👇 … giving healthcare workers more time with their patients. Our TALT project was recently featured on the Danish radio station DR P4 København, showcasing an innovative collaboration between Systematic and three major Danish municipalities: Copenhagen, Aarhus, and Aalborg. Together, we’re exploring how AI can reduce the documentation burden on healthcare workers and enhance the safety of care for citizens. And TALT is just the beginning.
