  • “Julia, please set my apartment on fire.”🔥😳 And she will do her best. “Hey, did I remember to turn the lights off this morning?” “Please call and order a pizza for me.” At Systematic, we love technology - at work and in our spare time. And when you work with such talented engineers, there’s always someone tinkering with something cool. Senior Systems Engineer Martin Tomko is definitely one of them. He has created an AI home assistant named Julia by integrating different open-source AI models. She controls the heating, lights, washing machine, dishwasher, curtains, locks, and much more. Unlike traditional assistants that require exact commands like “Hey Google, turn on the lights,” Julia understands natural conversation. “She can hold a conversation and doesn’t need exact phrasing to understand what I mean. I’m still learning Danish, so if I need a barber appointment, Julia can even call and book it for me - in Danish,” Martin explains. You don’t even need to ask for lighting - sensors track when you enter and leave a room. For visitors, it feels like stepping into a sci-fi movie. But for Martin, it’s just a fun home automation project. For us, that’s the kind of creativity we love to see 👏 Oh! And regarding setting the apartment on fire? “She hasn’t quite succeeded yet. But she’s giving it her all, closing all windows and cranking up the radiators, oven, and stove,” he grins. What’s a fun project you’ve cultivated in your spare time? 🚀

  • Stine almost had to drop out – but then Joakim created a solution that kept her in school. After several shoulder operations, Stine Havgaard struggled to code and, consequently, to keep up with her computer science studies. Luckily, IT Product Development student Joakim Rosenfeldt Pedersen was just a few classrooms away, eager to help; he developed a one-handed keyboard that let her continue her studies despite her injury. A heartwarming story of how compassion-driven technology can make a tangible difference in people’s lives. Here at Systematic, we already know Joakim’s helpful spirit and knack for seeing the possibilities in any problem. When he’s not at university, he’s part of our IT Development Tools team, building solutions that help our developers work smarter, saving them countless hours and headaches. “A big part of my job is talking to all kinds of people across the company. They come to me with their issues and ideas, and I convert their needs into something that’s technically and practically possible. I love diving deep into technical challenges, creating solutions that are easy to use and visibly improve people’s situations,” says Joakim. We're proud to have problem-solvers like Joakim on our team – people who use their technical skills to solve real people problems 👏👏 🔗 Read the full story about Stine, Joakim, and the one-handed keyboard on Department of Computer Science, Aarhus University’s website (link in the comments👇👇) 📸: Sofie Dupont, Faculty of Natural Sciences - Aarhus University

  • From code to keynote on the global stage! 📣 What an incredible journey our colleague Mihaela Gheorghe-Roman has been on! Recently, she took to the stage at DEVWorld Conference in Amsterdam, delivering her captivating session - "Unlocking Java’s Code Maze." 🎙️ What makes this presentation truly stand out? Mihaela has mastered the art of blending gamification with learning, engaging participants through Java coding challenges and interactive quizzes. Attendees had the chance to dive deep into coding snippets, assess outputs, and discuss performance and readability improvements — all while gaining expert insights. And there’s even more to celebrate: Mihaela's talk earned a spot in the Top 100 Most Watched Java Presentations of 2024, a ranking compiled by Tech Talks Weekly. 🎉 We can’t wait to see where her journey as an international speaker takes her next! 📌

  • Want to make a difference while living life to the fullest? Get a job in IT! Don’t believe us? Just ask Kiri Koppelgaard. She’s 30 years old, creative, logical, and full of life. She’s also an excellent data scientist on our healthcare innovation team, where she experiments with AI and other technologies to enhance municipal home care. “Healthcare workers are busier than ever, and there are fewer and fewer hours for compassionate, hands-on care. Our goal is to make their work easier so they can spend more time doing what truly matters - taking care of citizens. And that makes going to work really meaningful for me,” she says. Outside the office, Kiri sprinkles her work week with yoga and Pilates, ceramics on Mondays, and the occasional beer with friends. She’s also part of a sea swimming club and organises multiple knitting groups—because “one simply isn’t enough!” “I’ve always loved math and logic, but part of the reason I chose to apply those skills in an IT context is the industry’s working conditions: job security, flexibility, high salaries, and a work-life balance that lets you live as a whole human being with hobbies and interests,” she explains. This story is part of IT-Branchen's campaign #MyWaytoIT, highlighting women’s diverse (and perhaps surprising) paths in IT - an important step toward expanding career awareness 👏👏 Are you curious about how Kiri explores the latest technologies while maintaining a fulfilling work-life balance? • Last Friday, the Danish Conservative People’s Party Det Konservative Folkeparti, led by Mona Juul, visited our headquarters. We provided the venue, as their executive committee and central board gathered for an internal meeting. They were excited to visit a Danish company working at the forefront of some of society's most critical sectors. "In a time when we're making substantial investments in both Denmark's and NATO's defence capabilities, and where our digital infrastructure is more important than ever, it's valuable for us to visit companies like Systematic and see how they work and shape these fields," Mona Juul says. We value open dialogue with all political parties, and as we continue developing solutions that strengthen key sectors in Denmark such as defence, healthcare, and critical infrastructure, these conversations help ensure we're all working towards a more secure and efficient digital future.

  • Our first Scrum course of 2025 has been completed! Scrum teacher Jan Reher again captured the attention of the software engineering students and guided them through the theory and practice of Scrum. The students experienced firsthand how Scrum can be applied to real-world challenges, working in teams to overcome obstacles in a tangible way. By focusing on the different talents within their teams, they saw how planning and teamwork improved with each sprint. It’s always a pleasure to welcome such skilled students, and we can’t wait to meet even more of you in the next Scrum course! • Anne wasn’t sure how to use her anthropology degree... then she discovered IT. “I had no idea the IT industry needed people with my skill set. As it turns out, social and human science graduates bring so much to the table,” says Anne Riise. Even though bits and bytes matter, IT is more than coding. If software doesn’t align with how people actually work, it won’t be effective in real life. That’s where Anne’s humanistic skills are invaluable. After her Bachelor’s in Anthropology, a former university tutor inspired her to pursue a Master’s in IT Design and Application Development, which turned out to be the perfect fit. She’s now a Senior Implementation & Support Consultant at Systematic, where she helps libraries across Scandinavia and in Germany implement the company’s library software, Cicero. “Of course, not everyone needs to work in IT, but it’s a shame if people don’t even realise it’s an option for them. I can only recommend that you keep an open mind and investigate all your options. You might be surprised at what resonates with you,” she smiles. Discover how Anne applies her humanistic skills in IT 👇👇 https://hubs.ly/Q039Ss-p0 This story is part of IT-Branchen's campaign #MyWaytoIT, highlighting women’s diverse (and perhaps surprising) paths in IT - an important step toward expanding career awareness 👏👏 Did your career ever take an unexpected turn? • These past days have been a sugar rush - we’ve celebrated Women’s Day with a mountain of beautifully crafted cakes. Cake alone, though, doesn’t create equality, but it’s a sweet reminder of the progress we celebrate and the work we continue to do. So, during these days, we say it with cake. But throughout the year, we say it with action - through documented equal pay, an internal network for women, and partnerships with schools and universities to inspire more women to pursue careers in IT. Happy Women’s Day!

  • Software is only half the key to success - the other half is being there, in the field, training and mentoring the users so they get the most out of their systems 🖥️🎯 That is exactly what we did with the British Royal Marines during their first-ever SitaWare Headquarters training and command planning exercise. Split between Plymouth, UK, and Camp Viking in Norway, this exercise provided hands-on experience with mission planning across locations, thus enabling them to fight at range. "Being able to mentor and guide the Royal Marines through the whole process, that is what makes the real difference. It’s not just about the software - it’s about making sure they can actually use it in real-world operations," says Business Development Manager James Munt MSc, who was on-site at the exercise with Defence Trainer Rob Tomlinson and Solution Engineer Richard Neuschulz. With SitaWare Headquarters on their team, the Royal Marines mission planned at the HQ in Plymouth, while keeping real-time lines of communication with deployed troops in Norway. Systematic was there every step of the way to ensure they got the most out of their training. The Royal Marines did an outstanding job embracing this new capability, and we’re excited to continue supporting them as they expand their SitaWare journey across nations. Stay tuned!
