🚀SUCCESSFUL TEST OF NEW DRONE FOR SERVICING OFFSHORE WIND FARMS 🌊🌬️ Lower CO2 emissions, reduced downtime for wind turbines, and lower service costs for offshore wind farms. 💡♻️ This is the potential of the innovation project Flexible Offshore Drone for Wind (FOD4Wind). Here, drones will help transport tools to the wind turbines' nacelle and potentially also perform inspections of the turbines. Recently, the project partners witnessed the drone from Upteko in action during a successful test flight at HCA Airport. 🛩️📦 “This has confirmed to us that we have come quite far. It is certainly not without challenges to conduct inspections of wind turbines and deliveries of packages. But we have come incredibly far, we can see that. And it looks like our schedule is holding up, and we are very satisfied with that,” says Kjeld Jensen, Associate Professor from SDU. 🗣️🔍 TAKING OFF FROM MOBILE WORKSHOPS 🚢🔧 The drones will take off from Esvagt ships and inspect Siemens Gamesa wind turbines. 🌪️🔩 Most wind farms located far from land are serviced by a so-called SOV vessel. It functions as a large mobile service ship and workshop, which can safely transfer technicians, spare parts, and equipment from ship to wind turbine. But a good drone solution will make the partners' work more efficient, and therefore, there was a good atmosphere after the successful test flight. 🛠️⚙️ “It was a really good experience to see the demonstration, where the drone takes off, follows a ship’s horizontal movements, and lands safely again. It was an important milestone for the project. Now we need to test whether the drone can also handle the ship’s vertical movements, so we get a real picture of whether the drone can operate autonomously in a realistic scenario.
