And what has #Copernicus #InSitu been up to this week? 👀 👇 Our colleague José Miguel Rubio Iglesias joined a #C3S consortium meeting in Bonn, working towards better & more harmonised access to in-situ data essential for climate monitoring. 🌡 📈 💡 Thanks to the European Environment Agency, the #CopernicusClimate Change Service now has access to reprocessed data from 16,000 Argos and Iridium drifters (1979-2018) and Icelandic weather station records (since 1997). These datasets will fuel the upcoming #ERA6 reanalysis by European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts - a game-changer for global climate insights, combining in-situ and satellite observations with cutting-edge weather models. #ERA6 is set to push the boundaries of global reanalysis and help us better understand our climate. Today, #CLMS project lead Usue Donezar Hoyos is in the Netherlands, where the European Environment Agency and the NSO - Netherlands Space Office will kick off their cooperation within the CLMS National Collaboration Programme (NCP)! 🤝 🌍 Together with Estonia, Germany, Italy and Spain, the Netherlands will participate in the first phase of the NCP, which is set up to: ✔ Enhance country involvement in the future development of CLMS ✔ Increase uptake of CLMS products ✔ Improve collaboration across national and subnational levels More about our NCP here 👉 https://lnkd.in/d9isjWtJ

📣 Good news: #CLMS has ensured the continuation & evolution of its High-Resolution Vegetation Phenology & Productivity (HR-VPP) product suite, thanks to a recent contract signature for validation activities, and subsequent kick-off of both the Lot 1 (production) and Lot 2 (validation) projects. 🌱 Validation reports and white papers associated with the latest #HRVPP production update (reference year 2023) are now also available. 📝 HR-VPP data provide critical information for a wide range of applications in the fields of e.g. agriculture, forest health, and climate change mitigation. The new Lot 2 contract will ensure the continued high accuracy of the HR-VPP products. These validation efforts will be led by ACRI-ST, with support from the University of Southampton and the Universidad de Sevilla. 🤝🌍 Read more: 👉 https://lnkd.in/dMjv87hK

Now that summer in Europe is coming to an end, take a look at the woods, fields or parks near you. Are they starting to change appearance? 🌳👀 DYK: While natural vegetation in temperate regions usually has one growing season (lasting from spring until autumn), agricultural fields can have two or even three – depending on how often crops are planted 🚜 #CLMS vegetation products contain data on the start, duration, and end of each growing season. Changes in growing season provide important information as they reflect changes in e.g. climate and/or agricultural practices. The GIF below shows the end of the (first) growing season.   We are one of the partner organisations for #BIOSPACE25! 🌳 🦔   BIOSPACE25 is the first conference of its kind dedicated to the application of Satellite Remote Sensing (SRS) across various dimensions of #biodiversity and addressing the use of #EarthObservations in all realms, from terrestrial, freshwater, coastal to marine #ecosystems. The aim is to present SRS methodologies and technological solutions for biodiversity while fostering cross-sectoral collaboration. The #conference will be dynamic and participatory, giving attendees the opportunity to submit a proposal for a thematic session or workshop of their own. ❗ The deadline for abstract and workshop proposal submissions is October 20, 2024. ❗   We are ready for next year!
