Protecting waters from pollution caused by nitrates from agricultural sources

EU rules on nitrates protect water quality by reducing and preventing pollution caused by nitrates from agriculture. This evaluation will assess how well these rules have worked and whether they are still fit for purpose in light of the EU's ambition on environmental and climate policy, and its goals to achieve a sustainable and resilient agriculture and food security.

 
International Shipping In A World Below 2 °C (Muller-Casseres et al., May 2024)

Muller-Casseres et al. perform a multi-IAM analysis of international shipping and show the potential for decreasing annual emissions in the next decades. Results show reductions of up to 86% by 2050, with this primarily achieved through the deployment of low-carbon fuels such as drop-in biofuels, renewable alcohols and green ammonia.

 
Communities for Climate: Local action to respond to climate change

The European Commission has launched the Communities for Climate (C4C) pilot action, designed to empower local communities across Europe to take meaningful steps towards addressing climate change. C4C will support 50 local projects located in the eleven eligible EU countries. The call for submissions is open until 3 April 2024.

The European City Facility has opened a new funding opportunity for up to 75 municipalities or local authorities, their groupings and local public entities aggregating municipalities / local authorities. This funding is designed to support clean energy and energy efficiency projects, offering simple lump-sum grants of €60,000 each.

COP29 is a global summit focused on addressing climate change and its impacts. It brings together world leaders, scientists, and activists to negotiate and set policies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and implementing climate action. Scheduled for 2024, it will continue efforts to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement and keep global temperature rise below 1.5°C.
