📢 Morning Health Talks Bratislava: Exploring healthcare innovation and investment! As a representative of #EITHealth in Slovakia, we hosted the latest edition of EIT Health Morning Health Talks in Bratislava, where healthcare leaders, investors, and startups discussed challenges and opportunities in healthcare innovation. 🔸 Zuzana Kasanova from KU Leuven highlighted essential ingredients for biomedical #startup success, including clinical validation, regulatory compliance, and team strength. KU Leuven's accelerator has backed 44 impactful projects, expecting 12 new spin-offs by 2024. 🔸 Michal Nespor from Crowdberry addressed Slovakia’s healthcare investment challenges, noting that limited foreign investment and regulatory complexity hinder startup growth. #HICEE project coordinator Abigail Sidibe revealed key findings on barriers in market validation, IP support, and funding, emphasizing the need for stronger collaboration within Central and Eastern Europe. 🔸 An engaging investor panel discussed the gaps in #healthcare project volume and emphasized the importance of long-term business models. How can Ukrainian SMEs succeed in scaling up, integrating into Europe, and accessing new markets? 👉🏻 This was the key question at the event "Opportunities for Ukrainian small and medium businesses: scaling up, European integration, and entering new markets" held October on 25 in Kyiv. Organised by Civitta and Radar Tech, the event brought together over 70 entrepreneurs to explore the strategic steps, tools, and resources needed to enter the EU market – including the support offered by the Erasmus For Young Entrepreneurs programme. The panel discussion included several experts, such as Ivanna Didur, Associate Partner at Civitta Ukraine; Ralph Diestelhorst, Project Officer of the EISMEA Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs program; Ivan Nagornyak, Head of the European Integration Direction at EasyBusiness; Mariia Alipatova, CEO and co-founder of Solar Optic, manager of the KSE startup ecosystem, and EYE alumna. During the event, participants discussed the challenges of doing business during the war, and the opportunities and prospects for strengthening the export potential of Ukrainian SMEs as they integrate into the European market. It became clear that while competition in the EU market is significant if Ukrainian entrepreneurs bring all their innovative thinking and resilience, they already have a competitive advantage in the EU market. A few important insights from the discussions: 🔹 Ukrainian businesses have the potential to bring innovations to EU markets, where there is a steady demand for new ideas. 🔹 Entrepreneurs should focus on sectors that align with EU priorities, including renewable energy, agrifood, agritech, and digital industries. These areas are in high demand and present significant opportunities for startup development within the context of European integration. 🔹 Proper preparation is important for competitiveness in the EU market. Ukrainian SMEs should begin working on obtaining the necessary certifications now, as there are different requirements at different stages of business development. 🔹 Active integration into the EU business network through various projects, including the Erasmus For Young Entrepreneurs programme can provide support for Ukrainian entrepreneurs. These are the opportunities that need to be used! Additionally, Alina Rudnytska, Senior Consultant and Project Coordinator of the EYE programme, explained how to benefit from participation in the Erasmus For Young Entrepreneurs programme and what is necessary to apply. Iryna Savytska, CEO and co-founder of Bank of Memories, shared her experience of participation in the programme and mentioned, that EYE is a first step to other European projects and a bridge connecting Ukrainian and EU entrepreneurs.
