🚀 SUTS Kick-off! On June 4th, we launched the Strategic Upgrades Test Satellite (SUTS) project at Mektory, Tallinn. This innovative venture is Estonia’s latest satellite initiative, brought to life by the Estonian Student Satellite Foundation in collaboration between universities. 🔧 Our technical ambition? To design and construct a picosatellite that will test new technologies in orbit, thanks to the combined efforts of students and private companies. This compact cube satellite measures just 5 cm on one side and is made of 3 picosatellite units! 🎉 The event took off with an inspiring introduction by Anett Numa, followed by a short speech from our CEO, Katriin Kristmann. Our partners then took the stage to present their payloads. - Stefano Alberico from Skudo OÜ and Simone Briatore from Golbriak Space OÜ unveiled their encrypted optical and radio communication payload. - Our team member Markus Maalt from Falconers talked about their fast-moving object camera. - Taavi Raadik from TalTech – Tallinn University of Technology talked about the moon regolith solar cell, which is a payload they are developing together with our CEO Katriin. 🛰 Everyone was excited about the first public showing of our new satellite SUTS. We were especially honored to have President Kersti Kaljulaid give a speech at the satellite reveal. The event concluded with a panel discussion on the importance of space education in Estonia, featuring panelists Fjodor Sergejev, Karin Pai, and Paul Liias. 🙏 We’re grateful for the support from Estonian state budget, Yolo Group, Stoneridge, Tallinn University of Technology, and University of Tartu in the construction of the satellite. 🛰We also received a special gift from Estonian Space Office, given to us by Madis Vooras and Sander Sipelgas! 💖 The Student Satellite team extends heartfelt thanks to all attendees! 📸 Evelin Palu
