In September 2024, HERCCULES project partners Eni (Italian oil company) and Snam S.p.A. (Italian company, the operator of the Italian gas transmission system) launched Ravenna CCS, Italy’s first Carbon Capture and Storage project. The project in Ravenna will inject 25 Kt CO2 in Phase 1, will reach 4 Mt/y storage capacity in Phase 2 during 2027-2030, 12 Mt/y by 2035 and will reach 16 Mt/y by 2040-2050. 🌍 Exciting Discussions at the Baltic Carbon Forum 2024! I had the privilege of attending and helping to organize the Baltic Carbon Forum 2024 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The event brought together representatives from ministries, industry leaders, and academic experts for insightful conversations on Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) Our discussions focused on the significant role these technologies play in the energy transition, particularly in the Baltic and Nordic regions. We explored both the challenges and opportunities of large-scale CCS and CCUS projects, and I’m excited about the potential collaborations and innovations that emerged during the forum. A CETP project - 🚢 meeting and workshop in Vilnius, Lithuania [01-02.10.2024] A consortium meeting and webinar for the stakeholders of an innovative CETPartnership (CTS) project involving the direct injection of CO2 from ships for permanent geological storage were held at the luxurious Radisson Blu in Vilnius. 🪶 💎🇪🇪 SHOGenergy (Estonia) is responsible for the Baltic scenario and leading Work Package 2: Screening the candidates in different geographical areas and scenario creation and represented in the project by Dr Kazbulat Shogenov (president of SHOGenergy), Dr Alla Shogenova (director of research in SHOGenergy) and Dr mustafa cem usta (researcher in SHOGenergy). 📋 We discussed the progress of all work packages and presented our updated Baltic Scenario. 🙏 🇪🇪 We thank the Estonian Ministry of Climate (Kliimaministeerium / Ministry of Climate of Estonia for the financial support! As the TrANsMIT community focusing on #TEA of #CCUS Technologies and #climate change issues, we hosted very special and valuable experts from the municipalities and industry on the second day of the İstanbul Workshop: Erman Car (İstanbul Chamber of Metallurgical and Materials Engineers - MetAllic Engineering Solutions), Ece ÖZÖN (Director of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Climate Change Directorate), and Özlem Ünlüer (Sustainability Director at Beko Global). Their presentations highlighted the actions being taken on the Climate Change Action Plan of İstanbul and work on energy efficiency and reduction of CO2 emissions in the leading industries. The sophisticated presentations led to roundtable discussions and brainstorming. The potential collaborations between the stakeholders were evaluated in depth. SHOGenergy Alla Shogenova, Kazbulat Shogenov 📢 #Prinos #co2 Storage project progresses well!! HerCCUleS project partner Energean has set up EnEarth, a subsidiary that has the mission to create a new low carbon & environmental services industrial incubator hub in Northern Greece and the wider Mediterranean. In late June, EnEarth formally applied for a CO2 Storage License at Prinos, Kavala, NE Greece, to the Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company (HEREMA). As detailed in the application submitted for approval, the storage capacity of the first phase of the project will be up to 1 million tonnes of CO2 per year. Once fully developed, storage capacity could reach 3 million tonnes of CO2 per year – underwriting continued industrial operations in Greece and the broader region, protecting employment and socioeconomic standards. Also, EnEarth signed an agreement with RepAir, company that offers innovative solutions in carbon capturing, that provides for the utilization of RepAir’s advanced Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology to capture CO2 and store it in Prinos. #energizewithenergean #HorizonEU #CINEA #sustainability #decarbonization FOLLOW US: https://lnkd.in/drQqGxUM

On June 13th the first dissemination event related to the HERCCULES project was held at the Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia. The event was an opportunity to reflect on the role that #CO2 capture and storage technologies can play in supporting energy-intensive industries in their path to climate neutrality, accompanying the EU to deliver its net-zero commitments.   During the event Lucio Panarisi, in charge of the coordination of the #HERCCULES activities for Air Liquide, took part in a round table which was an opportunity to share the long-standing skills developed by Air Liquide in #CCS and the projects in which the Group is involved at an international level, starting with Callisto (CArbon LIquefaction transportation and STOrage): a France - Italy cross-border project included in the list of Projects of Common Interest of the European Union, coordinated by Air Liquide and developed in collaboration with Eni, Snam and other strategic partners, aiming at create a virtuous supply chain for the reception, transport and permanent sequestration of CO2 in south-western Europe.   Just over a year after the official kickoff event of the HERCCULES project, it was nice to meet again and share our respective skills together with the other partners of this important research and innovation project which constitutes the first full chain CCUS demonstration project in Southern Europe! #HorizonEU #CINEA #sustainability #dissemination
