Mercury is a dangerous neurotoxin that poses a significant threat to the environment and people’s health in the EU, and around the globe.
The current review of the EU mercury regulation opens a window of opportunity to deliver on ambitious phase-out dates for mercury-containing products, as well as addressing the most important remaining uses of mercury within the EU. It is in the Spanish and Belgian Presidencies’ hands to ensure that the revision is carried out quickly, in order to secure the completion of the file before the next EU elections in June 2024.
