Together with the The Egyptian Center for Arbitration and Settlement of Non-Banking Financial Disputes (ECAS), we are co-hosting the launch of the Equal Representation in Arbitration (ERA) Pledge in Egypt on 28 October 2024. The launch of ERA Pledge in Egypt is driven by the ERA Pledge Middle East Subcommittee led by our very own Sally Kotb FCIArb, partner in the Dispute Resolution and International Arbitration team. Launched in 2015, the ERA Pledge is a voluntary commitment dedicated to organizations and individuals to raise the representation and consider the appointment of women arbitrators on an equal opportunity basis, ultimately promoting diversity and inclusion in international arbitration. Baker McKenzie is proud to be co-leading on this milestone event which aims to bring together the arbitration community in Egypt to discuss best practices for gender equality in arbitration as well as to celebrate the success stories of leading female Egyptian arbitrators and counsels. *Kindly note that attendance to this event is by invitation only. #EqualRepresentation #Arbitration #Diversity #WomenInArbitration

Our Counsel, Mostafa Lotayef participated as a guest speaker at CityScape Egypt, where he addressed critical issues in the real estate sector, including the dynamics of Egypt’s property market, optimal financing structures, concerns about a potential real estate bubble, and essential documentation considerations when acquiring property. Simultaneously, we saw a significant turnout to our recent Competition Roadshow, which made stops in Jeddah, Riyadh, and Dubai. Our Associate, Mohamed El-Baroudy joined Baker McKenzie specialists in providing valuable updates on antitrust and competition law, highlighting key developments, enforcement trends, and best practices from Egypt. Helmy, Hamza & Partners, Baker McKenzie Cairo office, has advised AMEA Power, one of the region's fastest-growing renewable energy companies, on two pioneering renewable energy projects in Egypt. The first transaction involved advising AMEA Power on the development of a 1000 MWh solar power plant, along with a 600 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Following the successful completion of AMEA Power's first solar project in Egypt, the company has now embarked on this new solar venture. Notably, this project marks the introduction of batteries into the country's solar energy landscape and it is also the first Build-Own-Operate (BOO) solar development in Egypt to be constructed in phases. Further, the second transaction included advising AMEA Power on the integration of a 300 MWH BESS into the existing 500 MW PV project of Abydos Solar Power. This project integrates Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to optimize renewable energy use, ensuring a stable power supply. This helps balance the grid, cut down on fossil fuel dependence, and manage power fluctuations. Mohamed Elharmy, Partner at Helmy, Hamza & Partners, who led the Baker McKenzie Cairo team on the transaction, said: "The successful completion of these pioneering projects signifies a monumental step in Egypt’s journey towards a sustainable and resilient energy future. Our collaboration with AMEA Power highlights our unwavering commitment to advancing innovative renewable energy solutions that not only enhance our energy transition capabilities but also strengthen our longstanding partnership with AMEA Power. These projects are a testament to our dedication to shaping a greener future for Egypt and the region." The Baker McKenzie Cairo team was led by Partner Mohamed Elharmy, with support from Counsel Ghada El Gharib, Senior Associate Ahmed Shehata, and Associate Omar Mahmoud. The Corporate team which further supported the second transaction, was led by Ghada El Ehwany, with the assistance of Associate Marah Korraa. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dfzWtVAF
