نبذة عنا

The Women on Boards Observatory was founded in 2017 by a consortium initiated by the American University in Cairo, School of Business. The Women on Boards Observatory is recognized as a specialized observatory within the framework of the National Council for Women, Egyptian Women Observatory and advocates for the presence of 30% women on boards in Egypt by 2030. Partners of the Women on Boards Observatory represent a unique partnership, bringing together government, business associations, research institutions, international organizations and non-government organizations.

    🗣 The percentage of women on boards by EGX indices marked the highest representation in EGXSMEs at 26%, followed by EGX70 at 21.5% and EGX100 at 20%.     👌 An estimated annual gap of 65 women need to be added on boards of companies and banks to reach the 30% goal by 2030. The NBFS estimates declined from 42 to 27, the Egyptian Exchange from 28 to 23, the banking sector witnessed a decrease in estimates from six to five, and finally, the public enterprise sector witnessed another decrease from 11 in 2022 to 10 in 2023.     🔔 The four categories included in the 2023 report achieved improvement in the women on board representation. The non-banking financial sector (NBFS) companies are key contributors to the overall indicator, with 25.2% women on boards percentage in 2023 compared to 22% in 2022 and with a growth rate of 15%. The EGX listed companies also observed an improvement, reaching 21.7% in 2023 compared to 17.3% in 2022 and marking a growth of 25%. The banking sector women on boards percentage also increased from 16.5% in 2022 to 18.7% in 2023, with a growth rate of 13.2%.     👏 AUC Egypt’s Women on Boards Observatory is honored to share inspiring Women leaders’ stories, marking a brighter future! Today, we would like to celebrate Dr. Amani Abou Zeid, a distinguished alumna of the University of Manchester and a leading figure in International Development. She is being recognised for her many achievements. The University of Manchester, UK honoured Dr. Amani Abou-Zeid as “Global Development Leader” by engraving her name on the Bicentenary installation, alongside eminent thinkers, scientists and Nobel Prize winners. Dr. Amani Abou-Zeid obtained her PhD in Socio-economic Development in 2001 from the University of Manchester, in addition to multiple degrees in engineering, public administration and international relations from prestigious universities. She was twice elected by the Assembly of African Heads of States to the position of Commissioner for Infrastructure, Energy and digitalisation at the African Union.     💪 The number of women on boards has been increasing progressively from 2019 to 2023. The total number of women observed an additional significant incline in number of women on boards in 2023, following a positive rate of 18% growth rate and reaching 1567 women in only one year.     📣 Another milestone towards achieving the 30% women on boards goal was marked in 2023, as per the 2023 Women on Boards Annual Monitoring Report. The 2023 women on boards indicator reached 23.3% compared to 19.7% in 2022, increasing by a growth rate of 18% and achieving 3.7% increase in the overall women on boards indicator.
