Egypt Healthcare Authority (EHA) is an independent authority established under Law no.2 of 2018 on Universal Health Insurance System. It is the arm of the state responsible for the provision of healthcare services under the umbrella of the new system of UHI.

    On behalf of Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, President of the Egypt Healthcare Authority and Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project, Dr. Sherif Kamal, Advisor to the President for Pharmaceutical Affairs and Drug Management, proudly represented the Authority at the Population Health and Development Conference (PHDC'24). Dr. Kamal participated in a pivotal panel discussion titled "Paving the Way for Innovation to Achieve Universal Health Coverage Through Data in Egypt." During the session, Dr. Kamal emphasized that data is now a cornerstone of modern healthcare systems, enabling precise, evidence-based decision-making that directly enhances both patient quality of life and service efficiency. He highlighted the Authority’s dedication to digital transformation, marked by advancements like electronic health records, e-referrals, electronic prescriptions, and digital management of resources. These milestones, along with the establishment of a national cardiac drug library, drug suitability unit, and comprehensive drug evaluation system, are vital steps toward enhancing the quality and affordability of healthcare across Egypt. Organized by Janssen Global, the session welcomed esteemed representatives from Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population, the General Authority for Universal Health Insurance, the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, and industry experts. The discussions focused on the integration of data as a crucial component in fortifying Egypt’s healthcare system and aligning with the objectives of universal health coverage.     As part of ongoing field assessments, Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Egypt Healthcare Authority, met with the Governor of Suez to discuss key initiatives to enhance healthcare services across the governorate within the Universal Health Insurance System. During the discussions, Dr. El-Sobky announced the upcoming launch of three new hospitals—the Respiratory and Pulmonary Care Hospital, Suez Center for Advanced Surgery, and Liver, Gastrointestinal, and Endoscopy Hospital—all set to be operational by year-end. These facilities will provide residents of Suez with specialized, high-quality healthcare. The Governor of Suez commended the Healthcare Authority’s medical teams for their swift and skilled response in treating casualties from the Galala accident. He highlighted that the Universal Health Insurance System has been transformative in elevating healthcare quality for the people of Suez. Emphasizing national commitment, Dr. El-Sobky noted that President El-Sisi places exceptional importance on the healthcare sector, aligning with Egyptians' aspirations for comprehensive health coverage. Dr. El-Sobky conducted site inspections at the Respiratory and Pulmonary Care Hospital and Liver, Gastrointestinal, and Endoscopy Hospital, overseeing final preparations, operational workflows, and patient treatment pathways. The Respiratory and Pulmonary Care Hospital will be the first of its kind within the system, while the Liver, Gastrointestinal, and Endoscopy Hospital will offer integrated diagnostic and treatment services with advanced endoscopic technologies, meeting the highest standards of healthcare quality. Further, Dr. El-Sobky visited the Al-Tawfiq Family Medicine Center, assessing the efficiency of family medicine services and engaging with beneficiaries. Currently, 27 family medicine centers and units provide primary healthcare services throughout the governorate. A final stop at the Suez Medical Complex underscored the commitment of medical, administrative, and support teams, praised by Dr. El-Sobky for their excellence in patient care and emergency management. Egypt Healthcare Authority has delivered over 1.5 million medical services in Suez, conducted 700 interventional catheterizations for the first time, and completed 5,000 advanced surgeries—all marking strides toward comprehensive and high-quality healthcare for all. #EgyptHealthcareAuthority #UniversalHealthInsurance #HealthcareTransformation #Suez

    Representing Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Egypt Healthcare Authority and General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project, Dr. Riham El-Shennawy, Director of International Cooperation, took the stage as a keynote speaker at the second edition of the Global Conference on Population, Health, and Human Development (PHDC'24). The panel, titled "The Importance of Public-Private Partnerships in Establishing a Successful Health Tourism Model," emphasized the power of collaboration under the conference’s theme, "Human Development for a Sustainable Future." In her address, Dr. Reham El-Shennawy highlighted the collaborative role of the private sector, underscoring that public healthcare initiatives do not work in isolation. Egypt’s government has enacted critical laws to facilitate international patient care and established strategies to position Egypt as a regional health tourism hub through partnerships across government ministries and agencies. These strategic partnerships foster innovation, investment, and continuous improvement in healthcare services through shared expertise and advanced technology, including the latest in medical equipment and health information technology. This collaboration has also led to the development of new treatment protocols and training for public healthcare professionals by private sector experts. As a result, the quality of healthcare services for international patients has risen, new investments have been attracted, healthcare infrastructure improved, and advanced solutions such as telemedicine and digital patient management implemented—all enhancing Egypt’s global reputation as a premier medical tourism destination.     Dr. Amir El-Telwany, Executive Director of the Egypt Healthcare Authority, recently contributed to a pivotal discussion on the National Population Strategy during the second edition of the Global Conference on Health, Population, and Human Development 2024. In this session, Dr. El-Telwany outlined the first pillar of Egypt's National Health Strategy, "Strengthening Health Systems Towards Universal Health Coverage and Enhancing Access to Quality Services." With universal health insurance coverage set to reach 20 million citizens by 2026, the strategy includes 737 additional facilities across second-phase governorates. Egypt Healthcare Authority has provided 31 million primary care services through 311 facilities, with 247 facilities meeting national GAHAR accreditation standards and two achieving JCI international accreditation—reflecting ongoing commitments to quality and alignment with global standards. #EHA #PHDC2024
