Egypt FinTech Landscape Report – Event Recap On February 23, 2025, Entlaq, in collaboration with the Kingdom of the Netherlands, successfully launched the Egypt FinTech Landscape Report at the Dutch Embassy in Cairo. The event brought together key stakeholders in the fintech ecosystem to discuss scaling opportunities and insights from the sectoral report. Omar Rezk Rezk our Managing Director, delivered a keynote presentation titled “Accelerating Egypt’s Startup Ecosystem: A 2024–2025 Policy and Investment Outlook”. The presentation focused on bridging policy and capital to create a thriving entrepreneurial landscape and provided an in-depth analysis of Egypt’s startup ecosystem, investment trends, and its position within the MENA and African markets. The summit featured the presence of key figures, including H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation; H.E. Eng. Hassan El Khatib, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade; H.E. Dr. Amr Talaat Minister of Communications and Information Technology; Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation; H.E. Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh Chairman of Financial Regulatory Authority FRA; H.E. Mr. Bassel Rahmy, CEO of MSMEDA; H.E. Mr. Hossam Heiba, President of GAFI; and Mr. Ahmed El Alfi, Founder of Sawari Ventures. Their participation underscored the importance of aligning investment strategies with national economic policies to drive growth in the startup ecosystem. Key Insights from the Presentation Egypt’s Startup Investment Trends in 2024 Egypt secured $334 million in investments across 84 deals, with 26 foreign investors and 65 regional investors participating in the market. In comparison, MENA as a whole recorded $608 million across 90 deals, while Africa saw $736.9 million across 180 deals. The Big 5 African economies collectively secured $1.4 trillion in investments, demonstrating the competitive landscape in which Egypt operates. Egypt’s Competitive Position in MENA and Africa Egypt remains a key player in the region, attracting venture capital and cross-border investor interest. The startup ecosystem contributes significantly to economic growth, with 186 startups securing $700 million in funding over the past year. The country is among the top-performing venture capital destinations in Africa, particularly in fintech, logistics, and e-commerce. Sector-Specific Investment Distribution The presentation analyzed the value of investments by sector in 2024 compared to 2023, highlighting shifts toward technology-driven industries and scalable startups. The data showed a growing preference for sectors that promise long-term growth and global expansion potential. Policy and Regulatory Readiness Egypt’s regulatory framework was assessed in comparison to MENA and Africa. The discussion covered policy initiatives supporting startups, including funding incentives, legal reforms, and efforts to enhance the investment climate. The emphasis was on how bridging policy and capital can create a more sustainable startup ecosystem and position Egypt as a leading entrepreneurial hub in the region.
