Cyprus to Utilize Zohr Infrastructure: Kronos Gas Production Planned for 2027 Cyprus has announced plans to commence natural gas production from the Kronos field by 2027, leveraging the state-of-the-art infrastructure of Egypt’s Zohr gas field. Cypriot Energy Minister George Papanastasiou revealed that the development plan, set to be submitted soon by Italy’s Eni, prioritizes connecting Kronos to Zohr’s facilities, enabling faster production timelines and enhanced efficiency. The minister emphasized that this collaboration will facilitate gas liquefaction or export through Egypt’s Damietta LNG plant, which boasts an annual capacity of 5.5 million tons. By utilizing Egypt’s existing infrastructure, the project ensures both cost-effectiveness and expedited implementation compared to alternative solutions like floating production units. Furthermore, the Aphrodite field, anticipated to begin production by 2030, will be linked to Egypt via a short pipeline, supporting liquefaction and local consumption. This move underscores the deepening strategic energy partnership between Cyprus and Egypt, positioning the region as a pivotal energy hub. #EnergyPartnership #NaturalGas #KronosField #ZohrInfrastructure #LNG #EnergyCooperation #Egypt #Cyprus #GasProduction #SustainableEnergy
