🎉We are excited to share that Professor Andrea Ianiro, member of our department, has been awarded with a prestigious ERC Consolidator Grant for his innovative research project, which aims to develop revolutionary sensors to estimate turbulent flow. This grant, part of the European Research Council (ERC) Horizon Europe programme, will enable Andrea to push the boundaries of aerospace engineering and sustainability. His project, titled SPANDRELS, addresses a major challenge: accurately predicting and controlling turbulent flows. Turbulence is a key factor affecting the aerodynamics of transportation systems, such as airplanes and cars, influencing both fuel efficiency and emissions. Andrea's goal is to create highly efficient sensors inspired by nature, specifically, the sensors found in insect wings, which can detect even the smallest changes in airflow. Andrea’s project has the potential to revolutionize the way we design transportation systems, making them more efficient and environmentally friendly. The sensors will help the design of control systems to optimize aerodynamic performance, reduce energy consumption and minimize emissions, paving the way for a more sustainable future. Congratulations to Ignacio Jurado too, from the Department of Social Sciences at UC3M, who has also received another ERC Consolidator Grant for his project CONSENT. At Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Aerospace Engineering UC3M department, we are committed to supporting cutting-edge research that has a global impact. Andrea's work exemplifies our dedication to excellence and innovation in science and engineering. We look forward to the exciting developments this research will bring over the next five years! 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dSzyWajJ #ERCGrants #ResearchExcellence #Innovation #Sustainability #AerospaceEngineering #UC3M #FutureOfTransport #ERCCoG
