The 'Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation in Africa' (AfrIPI) is an EU-funded project directed by the European Commission and executed by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). It specifically aims to create, protect, utilise, administer and enforce Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) across Africa, in line with international and European best practices and in support of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the African Union´s Agenda 2063. Africa IP SME Helpdesk is a service implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) with the support of AfrIPI project and with the objective of supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from the European Union (EU) to both protect and enforce their Intellectual Property (IP) rights in/or relating to Africa. It provides free and confidential advice on intellectual property and related issues, as well as training, materials and online resources.

𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲 enhances women’s access to financial services, capacity building & access to technology for increased productivity. The financial inclusion of women calls for strengthened financial services and capacity building, especially for women living in rural areas, to gain access to technology and to use it to 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 in all industrious sectors, and with tailor-made financial products for the women. This will allow women to have access to formal and reliable means to save, access and borrow money. Studies have shown that women invest 70% of their financial resources in the social welfare cost of the family, particularly 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 and the 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 of children, while human investment ranges from 30% to 40%. Financial literacy of women allows for them to not only manage funds at the various public and private institutional set-ups, but also in owning the funds. 📌 On July 22-23, the Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation in Africa (AfrIPI) and the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) organised a feedback workshop to identify products in Chad that are ready to embark on the path to Geographical Indication (#GI). During the workshop, stakeholders and #GI producers discussed the importance of protecting a GI, the elements of successful GIs, the creation of a GI group (GR-IG) responsible for supporting the drafting of specifications, and an action plan for Spirulina from Chad—one of the champion products from the country. L'atelier de restitution visant à identifier les produits prêts à s'engager sur la voie des l'Indication Géographique (IG) au #Tchad🇷🇴 commence aujourd'hui! La spiruline du Tchad et la gomme arabique se distinguent comme les IG championnes du pays. Au cours de cet atelier, les acteurs sont parvenus à un consensus sur des questions essentielles au succès des IG comme la création d’un groupement IG (GR-IG) chargé d'appuyer la rédaction du cahier des charges et un plan d'action pour le produit.
