Sobre nosotros
ASD Lab aims at developing physic-based aircraft design methodologies including all the concurrent development aspects (manufacturing, assembly, certification, operation, environmental footprint) from the early stage with the objective of reducing novel configurations, material and technologies time to market. Emphasis is placed on the tighter discipline coupling (aero-structural, aeroelasticity, airframe-propulsion) imposed by efficient aircraft architectures.

🎉 Congratulations to Alejandro Núñez Rodríguez on successfully defending his Bachelor Thesis, completed under the guidance of Prof. Rauno Cavallaro and Pablo Norczyk Simon. In his thesis, "Computational Aeroacoustic Study of a Dual Side-by-Side Propeller Configuration," Alejandro addresses the critical issue of noise reduction for Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). This research centers on creating an advanced interface between an aerodynamic solver (DUST) and an aeroacoustic solver (ANOPP2) to enable noise calculations. By analyzing variables such as hub spacing, phase alignment, and rotation direction, the study shows that specific configurations, particularly out-of-phase arrangements, achieve significant noise reduction. Wishing Alejandro continued success in his promising career! #Aeroacoustics #UrbanAirMobility #UAVDesign #BachelorThesis #AerospaceResearch #NoiseReduction

🎉 Congratulations to Sergio Sanz Pérez for successfully defending his Bachelor Thesis, under the supervision of Rauno Cavallaro! 👏 ✈️ In this work, titled "Development of a Mid-Fidelity Platform for Flight Load Assessment (FLAP) in Early Design Phases of an Aircraft", the most critical load cases required by airworthiness regulations are integrated within FLAP. This computational tool allows the user to rapidly simulate the aerodynamic forces acting on an aircraft under various maneuvering conditions by incorporating the mid-fidelity aerodynamic solver DUST. The rapid and accurate simulations of the load cases make FLAP particularly useful during early phases of the aircraft design process in which many iterations are required.

🎓 Congratulations to Alberto Gallego Pozo for successfully defending his Master’s Thesis on the aeroelasticity of large aspect ratio wings (LARW) with Distributed Hybrid Electric Propulsion (DHEP)! Alberto’s research, supervised by Prof. Rauno Cavallaro and conducted within the framework of the INDIGO EU Project, made significant contributions toward developing a robust framework for the aeroelastic assessment of LARW-DEP configurations. His work represents an important step in advancing the understanding of these innovative aerospace systems. Wishing him continued success in his future endeavors! #AerospaceResearch #SustainableAviation #INDIGOProject #Aeroelasticity #ElectricPropulsion #StrutBracedWings

Time for Midterm Review Meeting of INDIGO EU Project
Some highlights from our Midterm Review meeting in Brussels! It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the progress of the INDIGO EU Project to our Project Officer, Hugues FELIX . The meeting also served as a great reminder of the incredible work the INDIGO consortium is doing to improve Local Air Quality and Noise (LAQN) around airports. Thanks to German Aerospace Center (DLR) fo hosting it the review meeting! Thanks to all participants!
