Over the past three days, participants dove into AI fundamentals—exploring everything from linear regression to deep neural networks. With hands-on exercises and real-world applications, it’s been the perfect launchpad for geoscience researchers stepping into #AI. 🔬 In today’s morning sessions of Barcelona Deep Tech Summit, we discussed the strong ethical and business debates of the rise of generative AI and LLMs, exploring why they are essential for the future of AI and how to make them commercially viable. Experts emphasized strong data strategies, balanced regulation, and flexible business models as keys to success, in the session ‘''Sorry We Are Open'': How to Bring Open Source Llms From the Lab to the Market and not Die Trying?’, organized with our strategic partner Barcelona Supercomputing Center. 🌎 We also examined Europe’s role in advancing Deep Tech, focusing on challenges in achieving technological sovereignty. Experts highlighted Europe’s goal of 20% global chip production by 2030, in the session ‘European Technological Sovereignty and Strategic Autonomy’, organized with our strategic partner Tech Barcelona. ♻️ The morning wrapped up with insights into climate-focused Deep Tech, from sustainable energy to green chemicals, in the session ‘Climate and Decarbonization’s Deep Tech: What Lies Ahead?’, organized with our strategic partner Mobile World Capital Barcelona. These innovations promise impactful solutions, but experts analyzed realistic expectations for their immediate and future roles. 🚀 In the ‘Corporate Venturing – old and new models of CVC – a firechat with Xin Ma’ session, organized with our strategic partner IESE Business School, Xin Ma shared insights on the varied landscapes in the USA, Europe, and Asia, emphasizing that successful ventures require a combination of strong technology, accessible markets, and smart regulation. In the USA, faster regulatory processes and a large unified market drive quick innovation. However, challenges remain, particularly in regulated sectors like food, where long-term vision is essential.
