𝗪𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝘁… 𝗘𝗮𝘁𝘀? We’ve all heard, “We are what we eat,” but when it comes to seafood, it’s really “We are what we eat, eats.” 🐟🍤 The diet of fish and shrimp has a direct impact on the nutrition we get from them! In aquaculture, feed quality is essential—it affects everything from the nutrients and health benefits of seafood to the taste and texture on our plates. Today, aquafeeds are evolving beyond traditional ingredients, tapping into alternatives like algae oils, insect meal, and plant proteins. 🌱 These responsible choices are designed to enhance nutrition while respecting the planet. 🌍 Yesterday, our partners at MiAlgae stood among the finalists at the Earthshot Prize! While they may not have taken home the award, they’re true winners to us. Aquafeed is both a challenge and an opportunity, representing 80% of fish farming’s environmental impact. With innovative ingredients, MiAlgae is helping shape a more responsible future for our oceans. Thank you, MiAlgae—keep pushing forward, and let’s keep innovating aquaculture together. 🌊
MiAlgae is solving two environmental problems with one green solution. By turning wastewater into feed for farmed fish, MiAlgae is not only recycling millions of litres of water – it’s also saving millions of wild fish from being caught. The algae feed, produced using wastewater from the whisky industry, is a sustainable alternative to using wild fish as fishmeal – and it's packed full of Omega-3. In just 6 months, MiAlgae has saved 2.4 million fish and 300 Olympic-sized swimming pools of wastewater – and it expects to production to grow tenfold this year.
