Sobre nosotros
The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, created in December 2000. It is a non-profit foundation funded by the Catalan Government through the departments of Economy & Knowledge and Health, the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, "la Caixa" Banking Foundation, and includes the participation of Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). The mission of the CRG is to discover and advance knowledge for the benefit of society, public health and economic prosperity. The CRG believes that the medicine of the future depends on the groundbreaking science of today. This requires an interdisciplinary scientific team focused on understanding the complexity of life from the genome and the cell up to an entire organism and its interaction with the environment, offering an integrated view of genetic diseases. The CRG’s main goals are: a) to be a world-leading centre in biomedical science; b) to communicate and establish a bilateral dialogue with society; c) to provide advanced training for the next generation of scientists; and d) to transform new scientific knowledge into benefits for health and economic value for society.

Congratulations to Dr. Noelia Ferruz, Junior Group Leader at the CRG, who has been backed by a €1.5M European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant in this year's funding round. Dr. Ferruz will use the funding to begin work on ATHENA, an AI model designed to create proteins with custom properties, such as the ability to soak up carbon dioxide or bind to BPA molecules, that can’t be found in nature 🌍🔬! From carbon capture to environmental cleanup, the initiative can provide completely new ways of tackling long elusive problems, and we can’t wait to see what’s next in the new frontier of AI-driven science.

This is the predicted protein structure of FNBP1. It is thought to drive cancer through alterations in splicing. An algorithm developed at the #CRG predicts there are 813 genes which aid cancer proliferation by altering cellular splicing. Study out now in Nature Communications. According to main author Miquel Anglada-Girotto, PhD candidate at the Serrano Lab, "these are not classic oncogenes but rather represent an entire new class of potential cancer drivers which can be targeted in isolation or in synergy with existing strategies. It’s an incredibly exciting new frontier to explore." The majority of the genes found have been overlooked historically because most cancer research focus on how mutations contribute to the disease. The research expands the list of possible therapeutic targets to monitor and tackle the disease. More info: https://lnkd.in/dx5Maa2S

⚡ Practical Course on Targeted Proteomics The course aims to fill in the gap between theory and the actual implementation of the targeted proteomics workflow, so that by the end of the week the students have the necessary know-how to implement the targeted proteomics workflows in their own research laboratories, and gain exposure to emerging applications in the field. 🗓️ Nov 17-22 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dVgqG8Xm
