El Centro de Investigación Mariña da Universidade de Vigo (CIM-UVIGO) es el elemento central de la estrategia marina de la Universidade de Vigo y constituye un polo interdisciplinar de referencia a nivel local, estatal e internacional en el ámbito de la generación y transferencia del conocimiento del mar. Somos uno de los cinco Centros Singulares de Investigación de Galicia y aspiramos a convertirnos en una referencia Europea y líder en la Eurorregión Galicia-Norte de Portugal en Investigación Marina, centrando nuestra misión en la generación de conocimiento de excelencia en ciencia marina, en la transferencia de ese conocimiento para beneficio de la sociedad y en la internacionalización de la actividad investigadora de la Universidade de Vigo en el ámbito del mar. Nuestro centro está integrado por 15 grupos de investigación y más de 200 personas. En la Estación de Ciencias Mariñas de Toralla nuestro centro cuenta con unas infraestructuras únicas a nivel mundial para realizar investigaciones sobre acuicultura, sobre efectos del cambio climático en el medio marino o para desarrollar nuevas soluciones biotecnológicas de origen marino.
