El recién publicado número de febrero de la revista Decanter dedica su portada a los vinos icónicos de España, con el sugerente título de “Icons of Spain, 10 wines to try before you die”. El artículo, que firma Ines Salpico (editora regional para España de la publicación), habla sobre qué implica ser icónico y qué hace a estos vinos merecedores de este adjetivo: suerte, relevancia histórica y una combinación de “excelencia en la elaboración, viticultura experta y terroirs privilegiados” están entre los ingredientes que cincelan un icono. El reportaje incluye diez vinos que cumplen con esas características y, en primer lugar, menciona a Imperial Gran Reserva, nuestro Imperial GR, cuya añada inaugural fue la de 1917 y fue el primer vino elaborado en Rioja con la excelencia en mente. Para Salpico, es un “Rioja clásico moderno” con más de 100 años de historia y, al tiempo, un futuro prometedor. Luck, historical significance, and a combination of "winemaking excellence, expert viticulture and privileged terroirs" are among the key ingredients that shape an icon. This feature highlights ten wines that embody these qualities, with Imperial Gran Reserva—our Imperial GR—leading the list. Its inaugural vintage dates back to 1917, making it the first wine crafted in Rioja with excellence as its guiding principle. According to Salpico, it is a 'modern classic Rioja' with over 100 years of history and, at the same time, a promising future. Ines Salpico’s selection is a journey through excellence, showcasing both modern and classic iconic wines such as Vega Sicilia Unico, L’Ermita, Rumbo al Norte, and Pingus, as well as exceptional Riojas with which we share space in the equally iconic Barrio de la Estación in Haro, including Prado Enea by Muga and Gran Reserva 890 by La Rioja Alta, S.A. Great news for our winery!  Alison Napju´s from Wine Spectator has published a list of her Recommend wines from Spain, and we are pleased to announce that three of our wineries have been highlighted among the best: Bela, CVNE and Virgen del Galir.    We are very proud of this recognition, which highlights our commitment to quality and passion for wine.   Thanks to all those who support us and accompany us on this wonderful wine journey! 

Los Premios Vinari celebran su 12ª edición, donde Roger Goulart Brut Rosé Millésimé 2022 ha sido uno de los grandes oros. Encabeza el listado de burbujas jóvenes que han recibido tanto medallas de oro, como de plata de la denominación de origen Penedès.   Los resultados definitivos de la edición se darán a conocer en el marco de una gran gala prevista el viernes 4 de octubre en Vilafranca del Penedès.    Este reconocimiento refleja nuestro trabajo bien hecho y nos inspira a seguir mejorando día tras día.

Congratulations to the whole C.V.NE. family.   We have been voted #9 in the World Most Admired Wines Brands 2024.   “CVNE has surged up 22 places to gatecrash the top 10 this year. It wins admiration from both trade and consumers for its ability to make wines with a common touch that achieve wide distribution, alongside genuinely world class fine wines that get connoisseurs purring. It’s achieved 100 Robert Parker points for a number of wines over the years.   Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España – to give it its full title – is now under its fifth generation of Urrutia family management. It’s best known for Rioja, where the bulk of its vineyard holdings are located, but also has still winemaking projects in Valdeorras in Galicia and Ribera del Duero.   In 2023, CVNE bought Bodegas Val, welcoming the Rías Baixas region into its fold for the first time and adding Albariño wines in the process. Val was one of the driving forces in the creation of the Rías Baixas appellation in 1988.   Chief executive Victor Urrutia said at the time: “CVNE is a national treasure and our objective is to be Spain’s most important winery. Buying La Val will help us consolidate this objective.”   CVNE also planted 30ha of vines in Peñaranda last year, to increase significantly its coverage in Ribera del Duero.   Other investment in recent years has included a new cellar for white wines at Haro in Rioja Alta.   La Val is the eighth winery in the CVNE group, four of which are in Rioja. One of them, Contino, was the first single vineyard wine estate in the region in 1974, influencing others to follow its lead across the region in the decades that followed.   Another fine wine in its portfolio, Imperial, is aged in a cellar designed by Gustave Eiffel, of Paris tower fame, deploying steel trusses instead of columns to support the roof to ease barrel management.”
