#NewStudy EIT Urban Mobility, in collaboration with TRT TRASPORTI E TERRITORIO SRL, has just released a critical new report: “Costs and benefits of the urban mobility transition”. The findings are clear—achieving sustainable mobility in EU cities will require an additional €1.5 trillion by 2050. 🚊 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 emerges as the most affordable and inclusive solution for reducing urban mobility emissions. However, meeting the ambitious 44% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030 will require more than just technology. It calls for significant changes in public behaviour and urban infrastructure. 🚶♂️🚴♀️ 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁, such as walking and cycling, offers substantial public health benefits, potentially saving €1,170 per person in health costs by 2050. 💡 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 alone can reduce emissions by 21% by 2030, but cities must also invest in shared mobility, low-emission zones, and safer infrastructure to drive deeper reductions and meet the EU Green Deal targets. The path ahead is challenging, but the benefits—lower emissions, improved public health, and reduced traffic fatalities—make it a necessary and worthwhile journey 🌍 🔍 Access the full report in the comments to explore the key scenarios and strategies that will shape the future of sustainable urban mobility! #GreenDeal #SustainableMobility #UrbanTransport #PublicHealth #ClimateAction #Innovation EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology

#NEWS €87 billion are at stake to prioritise reliable, affordable and sustainable transport. The European Cyclists' Federation now calls on Member States to include cycling in their national Social Climate Plans as a powerful solution to combat transport poverty. The EU Social Climate Fund (SCF) aims to increase the accessibility and affordability of zero- and low-emission transport and building alternatives, addressing energy and transport poverty among lower-income groups and micro enterprises. Cycling and active mobility —including bike-sharing services and cycling infrastructure—offer the quickest, most reliable, and cost-effective way to tackle transport poverty, making it a key element of the SCF. While Member States hold the power to shape their Social Climate Plans, active mobility needs strong advocacy now. And Tomorrow.Mobility is the platform to make this happen. 🗓️ On 6 November, Henk Swarttouw, President of the European Cyclists' Federation, will be at the roundtable 'Measuring and promoting active mobility' together with: ➤ Judith Schuermans, Innovation Manager at EIT Urban Mobility [moderator] ➤ Paloma Nieri Romero, Urban Planning Project Manager at CARNET ➤ Anne de Koster, Sustainability Advisor & Coordinator 100 Climate Neutral Cities at City of The Hague ➤ Cantal Bakker, Founder and Operation Director at Pikala Bikes ➤ Irene McAleese, co-founder at See.Sense This is the time to advocate for active mobility and #MoveBetter. 📩 Get your pass: https://lnkd.in/dz7qbfAH #UrbanMobility #SCF #ActiveMobility #TMWC24 #Cycling EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology | Cycling Industries Europe | Dutch Cycling Embassy

A new report from the European Environment Agency highlights the significant challenges that European transport faces in its journey toward sustainability, underscoring the urgency of rethinking how we move goods and people across European cities. 🚗 Passenger cars still dominate, making up 73% of passenger-kilometers travelled in the EU in 2022. 🚄 Public transport is expected to account for 18.1% of mobility by 2030, with railways driving much of this growth. ✈ Aviation demand has soared, increasing by 142.5% from 1995 to 2019. 🌿 While overall PM emissions have decreased by 51.6% since 1990, non-exhaust emissions (tyre, brake, and road wear) have risen by 61.5%. 🔊 Over 20% of the EU population is exposed to transport noise levels harmful to health, particularly in urban areas. Access the full report here: https://lnkd.in/e7SnmxHJ To surpass these challenges and meet the EU Green Deal goals, an estimated €1.5 trillion will be needed by 2050, alongside a comprehensive approach that relies not only on technological advancements but also on public transport, active mobility, and behaviour change. 🚨 The costs of the urban mobility transition? €1.5 trillion by 2050. 👏 The benefits? Even more 💰🌱 A new report by EIT Urban Mobility and TRT TRASPORTI E TERRITORIO SRL, 'Costs and benefits of the urban mobility transition', evaluates three transition scenarios across 12 European cities aimed at reaching EU Green Deal targets by 2050 - and the return on investment are staggering. When we shift towards public transport and away from private motorised vehicles, the potential cost savings could reach up to €15,000 per person by 2050. And that's not all. One scenario showed significant public health benefits thanks to increased active mobility, adding up to €1,170 per resident in public health savings by 2050. Explore the key insights of the study in this new article and understand how we can achieve the EU’s goal of zero net emissions by 2050. 🚍 Spoiler: Public transport and behavioural change are key! #SustainableCities #UrbanMobility #GreenDeal #ActiveMobility #PublicTransport EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology

🚤💦 Commuting by car is a thing of the past, the present lies in harnessing our waterways! With transport accounting for about a quarter of the EU's total greenhouse gas emissions, innovative ways to move people and goods around cities need to be developed. Norwegian startup Zeabuz aims to answer this call, with the rollout of the world's first autonomous electric passenger ferries. “Autonomous water transport can be better than traditional water transport – you can go electric sooner, because you can build smaller vessels and still be competitive with costs,” reports Carl Petersson, Zeabuz' Business Development Manager. As part of the Targeted Open Call, the startup was able to collaborate with the Ports of Stockholm and look forward to next steps of development. 🚀 Don't miss the chance to apply for the Targeted Open Call 2025 - applications close on 15 October: https://lnkd.in/dw3aPyxV Learn more about Zeabuz in the link in the comments 💬 #UrbanMobility #Innovation #Water #PublicTransport #Funding EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology
