EvoEnzyme is a spin-off from CSIC, Spain, which focuses its activities in the commercialization of ligninolytic enzymes engineered by directed evolution for the pharma and industrial sectors, together with the development of directed evolution projects. EvoEnzyme has just been funded after over 15 years of research at the Miguel Alcalde group, whose more relevant findings have been transferred to the company. With an ensemble of top-notch technologies, EvoEnzyme offers a variety of methods for library creation and screening aimed at designing customized biocatalysts. The company has a wide portfolio of mutant libraries, including peroxygenases for the pharma industry and chemicals as well as laccases and peroxidases for the long-pursued lignocellulose biorefineries.

Exciting days within the CirculH2 Project! A big thank you to the Technical University of Munich for an excellent Hydrogenase Workshop. Our scientist, Ivan Mateljak, spent the last few days participating in sessions focused on [FeFe]-hydrogenases, gaining hands-on experience with these enzymes. It was a fantastic opportunity to discuss and exchange knowledge on the potential of hydrogenases, all while enjoying the company of outstanding professionals! WoundSens is gaining attention! The @NMI team was recently interviewed by BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg GmbH, a prominent entity in the healthcare industry. The WoundSens team extends sincere thanks to BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg GmbH for the opportunity to discuss the importance of addressing healthcare challenges with innovative solutions, such as those presented in this project. Interviewees Kai Fuchsberger and Ruben Daum, from @the Natural and Medical Sciences Institute (NMI) at the University of Tuebingen in Reutlingen, shared insights into the work by NMI’s Regenerative Biomaterials group, led by @Hanna Hartmann. This group is developing an innovative bandage designed from a material that mimics the extracellular matrix of body tissue and can hold integrated sensors. To achieve this, they use electrospinning to create ultra-thin, hollow fibers that will encapsulate the enzymes, a key contribution by EvoEnzyme. Meanwhile, the Institut Jean Lamour (IJL) at the @University of Lorraine is engineering the conductive material. This process involves a complex optimization effort, with each team working diligently on their respective tasks. The interview underscores the transformative impact that WoundSens aims to have for patients with chronic wounds by enabling a rapid response to pathological changes, reducing the need for frequent and often painful dressing changes. This smart bandage innovation will enhance the healing process and deliver meaningful relief for patients and the healthcare system alike.
