Lack of hygiene: a brake on maternal and child health. 🍼👶 In territories such as Sierra Leone, births are marked by the use of contaminated water. Eight per cent of maternal deaths occur during childbirth and postpartum due to the use of contaminated water. To reverse this situation it is essential that clean water is used to prevent infections and save lives. At We Are Water we continue to fight for a future where every birth is safe, with clean water and good hygiene to protect the health of mothers and newborns 🤱.

🔎The water cycle varies significantly depending on the region. In humid areas, such as the Atlantic coasts of Europe or tropical regions, water is rapidly renewed by frequent rainfall. In contrast, in semi-arid and dry areas, such as the Sahel or the southwestern US, the rhythms are much slower, with long periods of drought followed by intense rainfall. 🌡️El climate change is altering these patterns alarmingly, but all is not lost. Innovative and sustainable solutions exist that allow us to adapt and mitigate the effects of these changes. 🌱 🚰At We Are Water, we work to promote more efficient and equitable water management around the world. https://lnkd.in/d5kDsn-h

They are the largest freshwater reserves on Earth, yet their retreat is disrupting rivers, aquifers, and sea levels. In 2023 alone, we lost over 600 gigatons of ice—the highest amount in 50 years. Nearly 2 billion people depend on seasonal glacier melt for water, but if global warming continues unchecked, some glaciers could disappear entirely this century. At We Are Water, we work to raise awareness of the water crisis and support solutions that ensure access to water where it’s needed most. Education, cooperation, and global action are key to protecting our freshwater reserves and securing a more sustainable future. Every degree matters. If we keep warming below 1.5ºC, we can still save them. 🌍 Protecting glaciers means protecting water. And protecting water means protecting all of us. #WorldWaterDay

✈️El The tourism sector faces major challenges in terms of sustainability, especially in water use. Tourists consume between 450 and 800 litres of water per day 🚿, which considerably increases energy expenditure. However, implementing water efficiency strategies in hotels can generate significant savings in both water 💦 and energy 🔋 . 👉 At We Are Water, projects such as ‘Let's Make a Deal’ with Hilton Grand Vacations have reduced water consumption in vulnerable regions by raising awareness among guests and employees. https://lnkd.in/dPbsvzgM

Did you know that rural municipalities suffer from a water crisis? They often lack adequate infrastructure and face the effects of climate change and pollution. This calls for sustainable solutions, such as rainwater harvesting and the use of renewable energies. 🌱☀️ While large cities also face problems, rural municipalities require urgent attention to ensure their access to water. 🚰

👀Do you know the challenge India is facing? 💧 Water is its most precious resource, but at the same time, the most difficult to obtain, due to the following factors: 🔸50% of the labor force depends on agriculture. 🔸90% of freshwater resources are used for agriculture. 🔸68% of the territory is prone to drought, which increases scarcity. 🔸12% of the territory suffers recurrent flooding. These elements make water management a complex and crucial challenge for India's future.
