The vote on the implementing acts for the EUDI Wallet has been postponed. It's wise to take the time needed to get it right than to rush forward with unresolved disagreements. However, I encourage regulators to collaborate effectively and maintain momentum. Prolonged delays risk holding back much-needed progress for citizens and businesses alike.
The European Commission has postponed today's comitology vote on the implementing acts setting out the technical specifications for the European digital identity wallet, saying that EU countries need time to review minor changes that have been agreed upon. Last week brought two major updates on the European Digital Identity Wallet front: 🇮🇹 Italy announced that the IT-Wallet officially launches on October 23, starting with 50,000 users via the IO app, and by December 4, the service will be available to all Italians, with full rollout expected by 2025—well ahead of the EU's 2026 deadline. 🇦🇩 Andorra also revealed its Digital Identity Wallet at the Madrid Tech Show, introduced by the Government of Andorra Office of Electronic Trust Services. However, the launch date for its 80,000 citizens is still unclear.
