Gleeds' Clare Cormack wins Design and Build UK's Women in Construction Award 🏆 We’re proud to announce that Gleeds' Clare Cormack won the Contribution to Project award at last night’s Design and Build UK’s Women in Construction. Her hard work and dedication helped her win the award, which celebrates women who have played significant roles in major construction projects. We’d also like to congratulate fellow finalist, Darcie Walbrook for her nomination and fantastic work at Gleeds 🎉. Clare commented, ‘After 30 years in the industry, I am overwhelmed to have been nominated for an award featuring so many talented women, let alone win it. When I first started in the construction industry, there were no female role models to inspire me. I’ve been privileged to work with some fantastic male allies who have encouraged to follow my own path, and I feel this award recognises there are different routes to success. I hope today’s young women have more role models to look up to, who can show them that construction is an amazingly rewarding sector that’s worth pursuing.” The awards, which were hosted at The Brewery in the City of London, commemorate the achievements of women in the construction industry. Gleeds helped to raise money at the Little Britain Challenge Cup ⛵ The property and construction industry’s annual sailing regatta featured five races over two days, to help raise money for charities. Since it started 35 years ago, £1.25 million has been raised in support of good causes, such as Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, The Cirdan Sailing Trust, the RNLI. After a strong start, Gareth Mainwaring, Kirsty Collin, Darcie Walbrook, Selina Lofting, Abi May, Gemma Smith, David McDonagh, Benjy Duckworth, Harry Adams, Nick Walters had to abandon the race after running aground. They didn’t win a trophy, but they were proud to work as a team and represent Gleeds over the four-day event. Associate Director, Kirsty Collin said: “Sailing in the Little Britain Challenge Cup was more than just a race; it was about turning a group of people who were strangers, then virtual colleagues into a true crew. Though we didn’t claim any trophies, the experience of teamwork, camaraderie, being housemates, and basking in the sun in the middle of the very calm Solent made it unforgettable. I feel privileged to have had my first ever sailing adventure with such an incredible team. #LittleBritainRegatta #LifeatGleeds

Helping the next generation build sustainably 💚 In partnership with RICS, WSP and The Project Data Analytics Task Force, Gleeds co-organised and sponsored a ‘green city’ competition for primary school children. The Minecraft Sustainable and Inclusive Building Competition was hosted at Portway Primary School in London, encouraging Year 5 students to use their creativity and problem-solving skills to design a sustainable building. Using Minecraft Education, the children were asked to consider RIBA design principles with sustainability practices to create their design, in the hopes of winning book tokens. The competition was organised to help inspire children to pursue careers in quantity surveying and digital roles. In addition to Minecraft, they were given an introduction to the roles of surveyors and project managers, specifically how they promote inclusivity and sustainability within the construction industry. Egypt's construction industry continues to gain momentum as the wider economy strengthens. Renewed stability was seen in 3Q 2024, driven by increased foreign currency availability and foreign investment interest. Gleeds attends 'Building The Future’ Conference and sponsors 'Workforce of the Future' report 📰 Last week, Richard Steer, our Global Chairman, joined the ‘Building The Future’ conference hosted by Building Magazine. He was joined by leading industry experts to discuss the biggest issues facing the built environment today, and how industry leaders can work together to innovate and transform productivity. Richard said, “It was a real pleasure to take part in one of the Conference’s panels – I sat alongside some brilliant minds as we discussed how to find a path to construction output growth, considering how the new government and industry can work together to transform productivity and innovation.” Lauren Watts, Director and Head of Health and Safety Services, also participated, speaking as part of the panel for 'The future of Building Safety: What does progress look like for Government and Industry leaders?', discussing the role of health and safety during periods of legislative change, the skills shortage and future sector growth. Gleeds' new global headquarters 🏢   After 20 years at New Cavendish Street, our London colleagues, and our global HQ, is relocating.   Our new space, at the heart of Fitzrovia, will stretch across three floors and will feature open-plan working spaces and a rooftop with a home for nature. To further encourage collaboration, the lower ground floor will be used as a multi-purpose event space to bring colleagues, business' and industry together. The building, designed by Emrys Architects, is fully electric for energy services, and is in line with our low carbon property strategy.   Richard Steer, Global Chairman, shared his thoughts on the move: “As our business continues to go from strength to strength, our new workplace will create a collaborative environment where our teams will be able to support the delivery of our clients’ exceptional projects and help them to achieve their goals. London was the very first home to Gleeds some 139 years ago, and we’ve transformed beyond recognition since then.
