The ICMAB is a research institute of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest research organization in Spain focusing on basic and applied research. The ICMAB, which is already 30 years old, keeps its initial enthusiasm which makes it a very attractive place to work for young researchers. At present the ICMAB includes about 300 people with 57 scientists as permanent staff. The initial and ongoing mission of the ICMAB is “to generate new knowledge in Materials Science and transfer it to the society, particularly to industry within the European Research Area“. Materials Science has evolved dramatically in the last 20 years and the cutting edge activities in this area are now deeply rooted in the Nanoscience revolution.

🌟 We are thrilled to announce a new partnership between leading small molecule API CMO Esteve Química, S.A., and NANOMOL TECHNOLOGIES SL, and INSTITUT DE CIÈNCIA DE MATERIALS DE BARCELONA (ICMAB-CSIC) research center, experts in particle engineering and characterization. Over the next three years, we aim to develop scalable, efficient, and sustainable techniques for producing micro- and nanoparticulate drug intermediates with enhanced solubility, bioavailability, and controlled solid form. 🤝 The drug development process is both expensive and risky. To overcome these challenges and add value, the three entities have joined forces in the PHASOL project, a public-private collaboration funded by the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (Spanish government) through MRR funds. PHASOL uses advanced particle technologies such as compressed fluid precipitation and spray drying. This initiative aims to foster collaboration between the three entities, leading to innovative solutions for the production of pharmaceutical intermediates, ultimately improving quality, efficacy, and safety. 🔬 The ICMAB-CSIC research is led by the Nanomol-bio group, which belongs to CIBER network and has the TECNIO recognition. The preparation of the particulate products using green compressed fluids is carried out at the SOFT service/U6 of the @Nanbiosis-ICTS. 🚀 Stay tuned as we revolutionize the pharmaceutical industry! #Pharmaceuticals #Innovation #Collaboration #DrugDevelopment #Bioavailability #Sustainability #SprayDrying #CompressedFluids

On 3 June I had the opportunity to visit the INSTITUT DE CIÈNCIA DE MATERIALS DE BARCELONA (ICMAB-CSIC) at the Bellaterra Campus. During the visit, we explored laboratories where solar cells are studied and manufactured, organic transistor manufacturing techniques and observed crystalline and organic structures using different microscopes. I thank the Clúster de Materials Avançats de Catalunya for this enriching opportunity.
