La Flor de la Proximidad permite responder a esta pregunta clave para la ciudad de proximidad. 📍 Para construir ciudades caminables y próximas, es fundamental identificar los servicios y actividades que la ciudadanía necesita a poca distancia. Desde tiendas, espacios de ocio, centros educativos hasta servicios de salud, esta variedad es clave en un modelo como la Ciudad de los 15 minutos. 🌼 Cada ciudad tiene características únicas, y los servicios y actividades necesarios pueden variar según la edad, género y condición física de sus habitantes. 🔀 What is my personal path in #PublicEngagement? This question will guide the new cohort of researchers in our Training Portfolio, which started last week. For the coming nine months, we have the pleasure to work with 9️⃣ 0️⃣ researchers from 1️⃣ 3️⃣ partner institutions and projects across Germany, diving into strategies and skills for connecting research and society. For us, Public Engagement is a fundamental aspect of an #AcademicCareer that can have a lasting impact on research outcomes, societal impact, and personal growth. The Portfolio builds competencies in three key areas: ✨ strategically framing engagement through a people, purpose and process model ✨developing skills around dialogue, communication and evaluation that lead to meaningful formats ✨empowering researchers to find joy and fulfilment in connecting with different people and perspectives. Each journey is unique, which is reflected in our flexible and modular approach. But sustainable engagement needs more than personal passion and effort: it also requires structural capacities that make it possible and attractive to work in participatory way. We therefore offer our Training Portfolio in collaboration with partner institutions, who are working to embed Public Engagement into their research structures. Partners receive a number of training places for their researchers, and in turn commit to supporting them on their engagement journey. With further opportunities for exchange and strategic support, this helps to grow a German Engagement community actively working towards a transformation in research culture. We are pleased to have developed a great and diverse network here in Berlin: the Excellence Clusters #NeuroCure and UniSysCat - Cluster of Excellence, the Berlin University Alliance network via the Knowledge Exchange Office and TDLab, Hermann von Helmholtz-Zentrum für Kulturtechnik an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, IQB | Institut zur Qualitätsentwicklung im Bildungswesen, Berlin Institute of Health in der Charité, Zukunft findet Stadt. Hochschulnetzwerk für ein resilientes Berlin, Einstein Foundation Berlin Centre for Early Disease Interception (Preparation Module Phase) and of course our home institution Museum für Naturkunde Berlin. This ecosystem of engagement, transfer, knowledge exchange and participation establishes Berlin as a hub for innovation in open research, and offers all partners the chance to learn and grow together. But of course great things are happening elsewhere too, and we are excited to have the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, DIPF | Leibniz-Institut für Bildungsforschung und Bildungsinformation, Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf and the One Health Research in Greifswald on board too. ➡️ Could your institutions, project or cluster become a partner next year? 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰: 𝗦𝗶𝘅 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 The Top Citizen Science program by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) has approved six new projects for 2024 and 2025 that directly engage citizens in scientific research across areas such as health, artificial intelligence, and climate change. These projects, based in Vienna and Graz, engage citizens from diverse social groups, including school-age children, care home residents, and local community members. With funding of €300,000, this round of projects represents the largest investment since the program's launch in 2015, integrating with FWF-funded basic research to ensure scientific quality and practical relevance. According to Christof Gattringer, President of the FWF, the program strengthens the necessary skills for joint research between scientists and laypersons, contributing to knowledge sharing and the refinement of scientific methods. The approved projects involve various activities, including data collection, result interpretation, and AI data analysis, aimed at benefiting both participants and scientific initiatives. In health research, collaboration across disciplines and with community members is essential to achieve meaningful results for those most invested in public well-being—the citizens themselves. The approved projects address critical topics such as air quality, nutrition and sustainable diets, and the impacts of climate change in specific regions. We are excited to announce Green eDIH's presence at the Climate Neutrality Forum, happening on October 29-30, 2024, in Bucharest at the Mina Museum! The event, hosted by M100 HUB, brings together leaders from government, industry, and academia to explore actionable strategies toward a sustainable and climate-neutral future. With panels addressing urban policy, finance, and citizen-driven innovation, the forum is set to highlight the latest in climate solutions. Here’s what we took away: 1. Cities Leading the Charge: Local authorities are at the forefront of climate neutrality initiatives, showing innovative approaches to urban sustainability. The Cities Panel showcased success stories from cities like Cluj-Napoca and Reykjavik, reinforcing the power of local leadership in achieving green goals. 2. Citizen Participation is Key: The "Participatory Urban Innovation" segment emphasized the value of community-led ideas. Engaging citizens in green projects fosters innovation and ensures solutions are tailored to real needs, a priority we’re eager to incorporate in our own projects. 3. Financing Climate Initiatives: Access to finance remains crucial. Insights from the Global Finance and International Stakeholders Panel highlighted effective financing models and partnerships that enable impactful climate projects, especially in the public-private sector. 4. Education and Empowerment: Engaging youth is essential for long-term climate goals. Workshops for young professionals underscored the importance of preparing the next generation for careers in green tech and urban sustainability. 5. The 15-Minute City Vision: Carlos Moreno’s keynote on the “15-Minute City” concept showed how reimagining urban spaces can reduce emissions and improve quality of life by making essentials accessible within a short walk or bike ride. This event has reinforced our commitment to driving sustainable change in our communities and the vital role that innovation, finance, and citizen involvement play in building a climate-neutral future.
