Robust high-speed optical fiber technology for harsh environments, in fully integrated optoelectronics devices.
Sobre nosotros
Fabless semiconductor supplier KD provides innovative high-speed optical networking for harsh environments. Founded in 2010 in Madrid, Spain, KD offer their cost-effective technology as either ASSP or IP (Intellectual Property) to be integrated in SoCs (System-on-Chips). Optical connectivity perfectly solves the electrical challenges and interference in vehicles thanks to its low weight, low cost, and electromagnetic compatibility due to inherent galvanic isolation. The integrated KD9351 Fiber Optic Transceiver (FOT), in combination with the proven KD1053 IC, reduces the cost for optical in-vehicle networks at 1 Gb/s, compared to STP (shielded twisted pair of copper wires). Incorporating the transmit and receive optoelectronics into one single component, the KD9351 is an optical transceiver for 100 Mb/s up to 1 Gb/s with a small footprint, enhanced efficiency and flexibility. With the comprehensive EVK9351AUT evaluation kit, carmakers and suppliers can already test the new configuration at 1 Gbit/s today. KDPOF thus supports easy project entry into optical gigabit connectivity for a secure Ethernet backbone and ADAS sensor connections in vehicles. Together with industry leaders, KDPOF is working on an optical automotive multi-gigabit system that will fulfill the needs of future connected and automated vehicles. Instead of various port components, the new solution provides a single, complete off-the-shelf package. The ecosystem already exists since the system leverages well-proven technologies, such as VCSELs multimode fibers and photodiodes already developed for the data centers industry. The technology will be scalable in order to enable even higher data rates, such as 50 and 100 Gb/s, in the future. Standardization processes are ongoing with IEEE 802.3 Automotive Ethernet and ISO PWI 24581 in progress.

“Optical connections are the engineering answer to simpler and cheaper solutions.” Our Marketing Director Oscar Ciordia has been interviewed by Dr. Matthias Laasch for #ATZelektronik about the new IEEE Std 802.3cz implemented in a transceiver for the first time. Thanks to Matthias Laasch, Robert Unseld, and Alexander Heintzel for the great collaboration and support! “The biggest hurdle is the #automotive industry’s reluctance to adopt new technologies, even when the benefits are obvious.” The 802.3cz Ethernet standard defines (multi-)gigabit automotive communications via #optical fibers. It is intended to create components that meet all industry requirements, including data rate, link length, and number of inline connectors. Spanish manufacturer #KD, formerly KDPOF, has now implemented the standard in an advanced #transceiver component. KD is about to bring the product to series production in its own new factory ... 🏆 We're proud to celebrate our CTO Rubén Pérez - Aranda Alonso as a 2024 IEEE SA Awards honoree, recognized for his outstanding contributions to standards development! Rubén is the co-inventor of 10 patents and the primary contributor to the IEEE Std 802.3cz Multi-gigabit Optical Automotive Ethernet standard . He has been honored with the #IEEESAAwards Standards Medallion for his pivotal technical contributions in developing optical Ethernet physical layers and test methods for #automotive applications. "Thanks to the best team at KD working hard alongside me and thanks to all the outstanding individuals contributing to the IEEE Standards Association | IEEE SA," stated Rubén. "With them, I defined #optical physical layer specifications targeted to automotive applications, as well as test methods for non-linear distortion characterization of optical transmitters. I would like to highlight the development of #TDFOM, a metric for assessing the quality of optical transmit signals, and ensuring interoperability of transmitters and receivers." 👏 Congratulations, Rubén! #fiberoptics #connectedcar #autonomousvehicles #photonics #automotiveethernet #adas #driverassist #IEEESAAwards2024

"The primary aspiration for KD is to overcome the copper-based networking limitations to support the future software defined vehicles architecture," reported Asif Anwar for TechInsights after meeting with Juan L. Matus and Oscar Ciordia at AutoSens Europe in Barcelona. "... To this end, #KD is emphasizing the flexibility of the automotive glass optical fibre cable, as well as being 100% EMI resistant. As with the Automotive SerDes Alliance (ASA), the #KD7251 transceiver supports asymmetric 10 Gbps downlink and 1 Gbps uplink for camera and other sensors to lower power consumption in the automotive network. Another potential advantage that KD is claiming is that its transceivers as well as the associated cabling and connectors can be lower cost than the comparable copper-based networking solutions ..." 👇 For the full report, please follow the link in the first comment! #automotive #fiberoptics #autonomousvehicles #automotiveethernet #adas #driverassist
