En un contexto global marcado por la epidemia silente de la enfermedad renal crónica, donde más de 20 millones de personas necesitan diálisis o trasplante renal, pero solo 2 millones acceden a estos tratamientos, la diálisis peritoneal domiciliaria se posiciona como una solución clave. Ofrece mejores resultados clínicos, es más sostenible económicamente y tiene un menor impacto ambiental frente a otras opciones. Ayer tuvimos el privilegio de recibir a Alex Andujar, enfermero del programa de diálisis peritoneal domiciliaria (DPD) del Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge, y referente en España. Impartió una formación muy enriquecedora sobre diálisis peritoneal, donde pudimos profundizar en los detalles tanto de la práctica hospitalaria como del programa de DPD, en nuestro laboratorio del Parc Científic de Barcelona. Queremos agradecerle por su dedicación, generosidad al compartir su conocimiento y compromiso con la mejora continua de la atención a las personas en DPD. Nuestro agradecimiento especial a Rosa M Sánchez Cabrera, jefe del equipo de enfermería del área de Nefrología del Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge, y la Dra Maria Quero del Servicio de Nefrología, así como al hospital, por facilitar y apoyar estas colaboraciones entre el sistema de salud y la innovación #MedTech. Conectar con profesionales de este nivel, más allá de los ensayos clínicos que llevamos a cabo, nos ayuda a crecer e innovar para mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas en diálisis peritoneal.

Aunque en España las campañas de vacunación han logrado avances significativos, reduciendo la incidencia de esta enfermedad, la meningitis sigue siendo devastadora, especialmente para los menores de un año y los lactantes, que constituyen el grupo más vulnerable y afectado. As Health Tech Forward 2024 #HTC2024, wrapped up yesterday, we want to take the opportunity to thank the organizers for a dynamic and engaging event, as well as to the institutions supporting the growth of Catalonia’s life sciences and healthcare ecosystem.   We feel fortunate to have participated as TOP-80 finalists in Health Tech Challengers, sharing our mission with a targeted audience of #HealthTech investment experts and pitching alongside amazing solutions that are transforming the market.  After two days of inspiring panels and sessions featuring top voices in the #HealthTech industry, along with significant networking opportunities, we are very pleased to learn that Health Tech Forward will return next year in Barcelona, solidifying Catalonia’s role as a leading region for health tech innovation and investment.  See you next year!

The Listen2Future podcast dives in depth into the work done across the consortium, highlighting the power of collaboration of 27 European partners. Acoustic sensors, microphones, and ultrasound systems are essential for monitoring and diagnostics, but current devices are typically large, costly, and stationary. Listen2Future is working to change this by creating new, flexible systems that make this technology more accessible and useful in a variety of settings.
